Humble Beginnings of Cascade United Methodist Church

According to the church's website, a gathering of 18 to 20 people took place one evening in the fall of 1926 at Mrs. G.F. Jones' residence at 1454 Beecher Street with the intention of founding a Methodist church in the Cascade neighborhood.

The church said the inaugural Cascade Methodist Episcopal Church South service took place on Oct. 3, 1926, in a building on Beecher Street near Cascade Avenue.

The team was successful in achieving its objective, according to the church. The chief elder, Elder Dr. W. T. Hunnicutt presided, and it continued.

The first church building was built on Richland Road on April 1, 1927, under the direction of the founding pastor, Rev. S. A. F. Wagner, after the young church had grown to 120 members by Dec. 1.

Mr. H.T. Pullen and Dr. G.H. Stegar gave the nearby site at Richland Road and Cascade Avenue to the church on Sept. 2, 1936, expanding the property so that a larger, more permanent building could be built, according to the church. It further said that the new building's front will face Cascade Avenue.

According to the church, Rev. Dr. Kevin R. Murriel, the church's 22nd pastor, who is dedicated to enhancing Cascade's impact on the community and empowering its ministries, members, and visitors to be social justice conscious and spiritually aware, spreading the light of Cascade and the light of Christ throughout the city, state, nation, and world.

Origin of Cascade United Methodist Church

According to the church, it has a history that goes back more than 200 years, which is a lot older than the history of just one congregation.

Cascade United Methodist Church said it originally originated in Savannah, Georgia, in 1735, when two brothers named John and Charles Wesley came to America from England and started working as missionaries.

More missionaries visited the colonies after this simple beginning and established churches, it was added.

The Methodist Episcopal Church was formally founded on December 24, 1784, in Baltimore, Maryland, at the meeting of the Christmas Conference, according to Cascade United Methodist Church.

According to the church, Cascade is a part of the history of the tens of thousands of congregations that have over the years served the Lordship of Christ and the United Methodist Church globally. They are relational rather than independent as a result, it said.

The church said that its website presents the history of one member of the larger Cascade family.
