Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia conducts blessing of backpacks for students, youth

Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia held a blessing of backpacks for students and youth.

On a Facebook post on Friday, July 29, the church said it invited the public to join and bring their backpacks with them to receive a blessing towards a new school year.

According to the church’s post, backpacks were certainly encouraged but not required.

The church said after the worship they may stay for the All-Church picnic that will also be full of fun and games for every age.

Sunday Worship

Central Presbyterian Church invited the public to join for a traditional, hour-long worship service in the sanctuary at 11 a.m.

According to the church’s website, this service, which has its roots in the Reformed tradition, will feature a wide range of musical selections performed by the choir, organ, and special guest instrumentalists.

They will also experience the Word of God through dramatic and illuminating scripture readings, stirring sermons, and the liturgical arts on display in the sanctuary, the church said.

The church said the seating is socially segregated during the traditional services. 

For the purpose of locating contacts, reservations are necessary, according to the church. 

They ask that everyone attending services wear a mask while on the church campus, even if they have all the vaccinations, the church said. 

It added that there is no childcare available right now. 

After service, they may find a chance to say hello to one another in the church courtyard rather than shaking hands or giving hugs, it added.

The church also urged everyone to refrain from attending in person if they exhibited any COVID-19-related symptoms or if they encountered someone who has the illness.

Childcare During Worship

All ages of kids are welcome to go to church with their parents, according to the church

For kids under five, there is a nursery here that is open from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 noon. 

The church said there is a specific time with young children in worship as well as Sunday School for preschoolers to elementary-aged kids on the second floor.

Accessible for Persons with Disabilities

The Sanctuary and Tull Fellowship Hall are accessible via the elevator located at the entrance to Rand Chapel on Washington Street, according to the church.

Central Presbyterian Church said all floors of the Oglesby building can be reached through the elevator, including the sanctuary, which is accessed from the second floor.

All levels of the Campbell-Eagan Building, including the gym and childcare, are accessible via the elevator at the Campbell-Eagan Entrance, it added.

A curb ramp and a wheelchair are available from Central, according to the church's website. Both are situated in Rand Chapel's Narthex, the church said. The church said those who need help may ask for assistance from the usher or greeter.

On Sundays, Washington Street is marked with disability parking spaces, it added.
