Church’s History

On Ponce de Leon Avenue in Midtown Atlanta, the church said it is situated next to The Majestic, according to the church's website

Druid Hills Presbyterian Church said they invited the public to join as they build on the legacy of the church as an authentic and powerful testimony of God's love in Atlanta and throughout the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) denomination.

Everyone is invited to join the Christian community at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church so that they might discover the meaning of their lives, celebrate God's creation, and meet the needs of those around them, the church said on the same website.

The church said the congregation is a multicultural, open-minded family made up of members from all across the metro Atlanta region.

It added that the Midtown, Virginia Highland, Poncey Highland, Candler Park, Lake Claire, Inman Park, Old 4th Ward, Reynoldstown, Druid Hills, and Little 5 Points neighborhoods are all contiguous with the building.

Furthermore, the church said they have members that come from the entire Atlanta Metro area.

Church’s Leadership

All members of the Presbyterian Church are called to ministry, according to the church

The church said it likes to state that everyone serves a different purpose in the church and that no role or member is more essential than another.

The "Session" is composed of seven Ruling Elders (church members ordained to serve as leaders) and one Teaching Elder (the pastor), who are chosen by the congregation to serve two-year terms, the church specified.

It added that the "Session" is responsible for establishing the vision and guiding the direction of the congregation.

On the same website, the church said all of the elders serve on or oversee one of the ministry teams as part of their devotion to the church.

Church’s Sanctuary

According to Druid Hills Presbyterian Church, they hold services in a revered sanctuary that was constructed in 1940 and created by renowned architect Francis Palmer Smith.

The church pointed out arches above the chancel and aisles as well as at the tops of the windows serve as visual cues that this structure was created in the French Gothic architectural style.

It added that the spectacular arched timbering on the Gothic ceiling is evocative of Westminster Hall in London.

There are additional pews in the balcony as well as two groups of pews with an aisle in the middle, the church said.

They also indicated the choir, which was previously housed in a loft behind the chancel, has subsequently moved inside the chancel.

The chancel had a pulpit at its right end in the original version, which was much smaller than it is now, it added.

The church said the sanctuary's pipe organ and stained glass windows are additional noteworthy elements.
