Church’s Mission Statement

As members of Morningside Presbyterian Church, they come together to joyfully respond to God's call in a world that is changing via worship and study, the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and wise stewardship of God's gifts, according to the church's website.

In keeping with the Lord's invitation to embrace all persons, this religious community is dedicated to serving both God and neighbor, the church said.

Their goal is to confront the problems of the modern era with optimism, grace, compassion, and wisdom, it added.

The term "Presbyterian" describes the system of government, in which clergy and laypeople are equally responsible for decisions, according to the church.

The church said the most recent declaration of the denomination's beliefs, "A Brief Statement of Faith," which expresses the convictions about who God is, who they are, and how they behave as Christians in the world, best captures the understanding of the fundamentals of Presbyterian thought.

The church said they hold the view that "God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning their sins against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us," as part of the Christian tradition (2 Corinthians 5:19).

It added that they hold the conviction that because of the person, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, they have been delivered from the grip of sin and death and are now able to live new lives.

In light of this, they believe that Morningside Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the Christian Church in all eras and locations exist not to glorify themselves but to worship and glorify God; not to serve themselves but to serve the world in the name of Jesus, according to the church.

Morningside is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA), which is a part of the National Council of Churches. The National Council of Churches and Presbyterian Church USA both approved A Social Creed for the Twenty-First Century in 2008, it added.

Deacons

The Board of Deacons, often known as the diaconate, is a committee that the Session established and that reports to it, according to the church

The church said deacons, however, are elected by the congregation as a whole after being nominated by members of the congregation each year, just like the elders on Session.

Deacons are appointed during a three-year period, it added. The church said the current Session examines newly elected deacons before ordaining them during a worship service. Ordination lasts a lifetime, it added.
