The Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, held an Advent service of lament healing on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Central Presbyterian Church announced that it held an Advent service of lament and healing in the church's sanctuary at 7 p.m.
According to the post, the special service was also live-streamed through its official social media sites.
The church said the cries and prayers of lament have arisen for ages from those who have been through traumatic events.
The Central Presbyterian explained that the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had claimed the lives of thousands of people around the world in the last 18 months. The people have often cried out as individuals, groups, and nations.
At the same time, many experienced personal tragedies outside the scope of the pandemic that evoked similar expressions of grief and sorrow, including the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or even recent events at their church.
According to Central Presbyterian, lament gives Christ's church a prayer and reflection rhetoric appropriate for the turbulent times we live in rhetoric that mourns the loss, explores complicity in brokenness, screams for divine help, and sings and prays with hope.
It added that in the end, it is the fidelity of the God who listens and acts that defines mourning and not the desire to express the people's grief.
The church anticipated that the public would attend the service, which was intended to lift up the lament and their enduring faith in Jesus Christ during this season of expectant waiting for a savior.
According to the post, parking was also available in the garage for those needed during the service.
