Druid Hills Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia announced that it is set to hold a congregational kickoff lunch, mission, and fellowship event.

In a Facebook post, the church invited the public to join in a kickoff 2022 to 2023 program this year with a lunch on the lawn featuring a brunch catered by the Flying Biscuit.

There will be a delicious supper, activities, and even some water fun, according to the church.

The church said participants are encouraged to put on or bring comfortable clothes so that they can unwind and participate in the family-friendly entertainment after church.

Additionally, the church said it will put together art supplies for pupils at the Title 1 school where Lauren Merceron teaches art.

Lunch costs $10 per person with a $25 family cap, according to the church.

The church said to pay for their dinner in advance, they may go to www.dhpc.org and select "Give Online" in the top right corner. However, the church said if cost is an issue, they may speak with Pastor Elizabeth.

The participants must select "Congregational Lunch" as the fund once they have reached the payment portal, the church said. They may put their name in the memo line as well, it added.

Church’s Sanctuary

According to the church's website, they hold services in a revered sanctuary that was constructed in 1940 and created by renowned architect Francis Palmer Smith.

The church said pointed arches above the chancel and aisles as well as at the tops of the windows serve as visual cues that this structure was created in the French Gothic architectural style.

The spectacular arched timbering on the Gothic ceiling is evocative of Westminster Hall in London, it added.

There are additional pews on the balcony as well as two groups of pews with an aisle in the middle.

The choir, which was previously housed in a loft behind the chancel, has subsequently moved inside the chancel, according to the church.

The church said the chancel had a pulpit at its right end in the original version, which was much smaller than it is now.

The sanctuary's pipe organ and stained glass windows are additional noteworthy elements, it added.

To meet the various requirements of contemporary worship, the sanctuary underwent remodeling in 2013, according to the church.

Druid Hills Presbyterian Church said the sanctuary's pipe organ and stained glass windows, which are described below, are other notable elements.

Pipe Organ

The organ was finished in time for the sanctuary's opening in September of 1940, according to the church

More pipes in the original design were added to the instrument five years later, the church said.

The church said the organ has had routine care over its history, but it has remained substantially unchanged.

It said that it viewed it as a precious gem because there aren't many remaining Donald Harrison signature instruments.
