Inman Park United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia invited the public to a sermon series, “Only Murder in the Palace.”

On a Facebook post on Friday, Aug. 19, the church said they will tell the tale of two people who were assassinated in the royal palace by people they trusted.

The church said it will also discuss the lessons that their lives and their deaths teach everyone in a sermon series called Only Murder in the Palace that will run for the next two weeks.

The church said while it won't specifically focus on the television program from which the title was stolen, it will be inspired by it. Pastor Tara's discussion of Jezebel will come first.

The public may join at 11 a.m. online through YouTube or Facebook pages or in-person service.

Those who have prayer requests may send them to Pastor Tara at pastor@inmanparkumc.com.

Alternatively, anyone can donate to Inman Park's ministries by visiting www.inmanparkumc.org and clicking the green "donate" button in the upper right, according to the church.

Church’s Worship

Sunday morning services begin at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary, and they are simultaneously live streamed on both Facebook and YouTube accounts, according to the church.  By Monday, it will also be available on the Worship page, the church said.

Inman Park United Methodist Church said they play a combination of religious and secular music, and there is no requirement to dress up, however wearing pants is highly recommended.

It currently requires everyone to wear a mask while inside the building and during worship, regardless of age, due to COVID.

Additionally, they promote social seclusion and require that any prolonged socializing occur outside and after service, according to the church.

Inclusivity is regarded as a defining feature at Inman Park Church, the church said. As a result of the acceptance of Jesus' message that everyone is loved and accepted by God, everyone is welcome, it added.

The church said it encourages everyone to participate fully in the life and leadership of our congregation, regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, marital status, legal status, or economic situation.

It added that they are a child of God, regardless of who they are or where they have come from, and they are welcome to connect, grow, and serve here.

Church’s History

The first "garden suburb" of Atlanta, Inman Park, is home to the historic Inman Park United Methodist Church, which was founded in 1866, according to the church

The church said it predates one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods.

On April 17, 1898, the church structure was dedicated, according to its website. Willis Franklin Denny, II, who also designed Rhodes Hall, the well-known "castle" house close to the intersection of Peachtree Street and West Peachtree, was responsible for its Romanesque design and construction from Stone Mountain granite, the church said.

Denny also designed the St. Mark United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, and other notable Atlanta landmarks, it added.
