Morningside Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia conducted a hymn workshop.

The church made the announcement in a Facebook post on Saturday, Sept. 3.

According to the church’s post, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11, Dr. Mary Louise “Mel” Bringle, chair of the Glory to God hymnal committee, will be there to assist the church members in singing their faith.

It also invited everyone to come to sing timeless hymns and discover brand-new ones.

Meanwhile, the church said it will host a Hymn Festival with Bringle, the architect of the Glory to God hymnal.

Morningside Presbyterian Church said the expanded hymns and the return of some “oldies but goodies,” Bringle will help everyone to understand how the hymnody positively impacts the worship.

It stated that gone are the days when hymnals were just only for “hymns.”

The church said incorporating an increasingly wide array of genres, the repertoire of sacred music continues to grow.

Hymnological scholar Michael Hawn, on the other hand, has helpfully identified these genes as seven streams ranging from classical hymnody to folk music, black and white gospel, spirituals, praise music, and global or ecumenical forms, according to the church.

Morningside Presbyterian Church said the presentation will explore features and examples of these streams as they appear in the “new” PC(USA) hymnal, Glory to God, and further investigate distinctive themes animating the 21st congregational song.

Thriving Congregation

According to the church's website, Morningside Presbyterian Church is a thriving congregation with deep roots in the Reformed or Presbyterian tradition. The church is actively involved in the neighborhood and beyond and provides a warm welcome to all of God's children.

Morningside Presbyterian Church said its vision for ministry embraces passion, action, and variety in order to help people travel together in worship, service, growth, and community.

When the pastors declare from the pulpit, "We welcome everyone without reservation," the church claims that it is everyone being represented.

It believes that the characteristics that have made Morningside Presbyterian Church a thriving and growing congregation are this kind of accepting compassion, insightful and motivating preaching, a first-rate music program, and its particular emphasis on children's education and activities.

Young children are taught Bible stories every Sunday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, and their voices are lifted in song during the worship service.

A thorough Bible study that challenges both the mind and the heart can be discovered, according to the church.

According to the church, they will see a group of individuals who help one another and cooperate to help others who are in need.

It added that they gather together as Morningside Presbyterian Church members to joyfully answer to God's call in a changing world via worship and study, the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and prudent stewardship of God's gifts.

Church’s Home Mission

It added that it acquired a spire in 1955. The church is surrounded by gorgeous neighborhoods and is located in the middle of a park-like setting.
