The Neighborhood Church in Atlanta, Georgia announced that it will start its Lent series with “Say Yes!” with “Say Yes to the Bless!”

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Neighborhood Church said that Ash Wednesday falls on March 2 and will be the start of its Lent series.

The church said it will be giving blessings to everyone who wants one on McLendon Ave in front of the church throughout the day, reminding people in the community that life is a gift and all valued.

According to the church’s post, it encouraged the public to come and see as they give concrete blessings to the community, noting that there will be glitter.

A prayer service with the imposition of ashes will be held in the Sanctuary at 6:30 p.m., according to the church.

The church said this historic Christian practice serves as a reminder of our mortality and the need of appreciating the gift of life.

Everyone is welcome to give and receive these blessings. The church said they hope to see them on Ash Wednesday as they embark on this Lenten journey to Say Yes!

Church’s In-person Worship Service

The Neighborhood Church's in-person worship services began on Sunday, Feb. 20.

On Wednesday, Feb. 16, The Neighborhood Church announced on Facebook that in-person worship had returned this week due to a decrease in COVID-19 infections.

According to the church's post, since the number of COVID-19 infections in Atlanta has dropped drastically in recent weeks, the church's board has agreed that they can resume indoor worship together on Sundays at 11 a.m.

According to the church, face masks and social distancing will be required.

The Neighborhood Church advised that sick people should stay at home.

If they are unable to come in person or choose to worship online for any reason, they will continue to offer online worship.

A small assembly of the Neighborhood Church was called together for a time of fellowship and discussion.

It announced a small group gathering on Monday nights to go over The Racial Healing Handbook together, in conjunction with Compassionate Atlanta, in a Facebook post on Monday, Feb. 7.

According to the church, the first gathering took place last week and was a time of joyful camaraderie and thought-provoking discussion.
