North Avenue Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, will host a holiday concert with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

According to the church’s Facebook post, it will hold two concerts, one at 11 a.m. and another at 12:15 p.m.

Additionally, the church will have designated general admission seating.

North Presbyterian Church added it wants its visitors to have a sense of security.

The church knowing there is room for everyone might encourage members to invite their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers to the concert.

North Avenue Presbyterian Church

North Avenue Presbyterian Church established "Engaging the City, Partnering with the Global Church, and Befriending Internationals" as its primary objectives in 2013.

Atlanta increased its boundaries in 1894, roughly where the A.T. & T. Peachtree now has a building, per its history page.

On Dec. 4, 1898, they selected 100 individuals from First Presbyterian, 15 from Central Presbyterian Church, and one from Athens Presbyterian Church to be founding members, the about page said.

Frank M. Eldridge, Joseph K. Orr IV, James T. Porter Jr., and Edward K. Van Winkle Jr. are still active members of the organization. The site reads that Reverend Dr. Richard Orme Flinn served as the first pastor.

Stone Mountain granite was provided by charter members whose ancestors owned the mountain and operated a granite quarry to build the church.  The webpage revealed that in 1900, it was used for the first time during the Thanksgiving ceremony.

North Avenue Presbyterian School was established by the church in 1909. It had 21 students at first and had classes in the Sunday School building, the site revealed.

In the 1950s, the leaders and members of North Avenue Presbyterian Church decided to stay downtown, as per the site.

The page revealed that this choice was to get involved in urban ministry, working with foreigners, the global community, and the city.

Long-time member Col. Roy LeCraw was passionate about international missions, and after serving in Korea during the Korean War, he helped found more than 100 churches there. The first North Avenue annual missions conference, which generated money for overseas and urban missions, took place in 1957. Since then, this has persisted, according to the history page.

Missions in North Presbyterian Church

With the calling of Rev. Dr. Prakobb Deetanna on October 17, 1976, the position of Minister for Missions was established part-time in 1970 and became a full-time staff job, the website said.

Three Korean congregations, one Kenyan Fellowship, one Eritrean Fellowship, and one Sudanese Fellowship were housed on North Avenue during their early years, the site reads.

Deetanna was behind the many short-term mission trips because he believed the experience would be transformative for the youth and members who went.

North Avenue Presbyterian Church, along with other churches in Atlanta, assisted in the founding and funding the Kenyan Presbyterian University from the Pastoral Institute, the page bared.
