North Avenue Presbyterian Church (NAPC) will hold a meeting for the adoption and foster care support group on Friday, Feb. 26.
The church’s website noted that they welcome those individuals whose families adopted kids or those considering adopting to attend the gathering.
They also invited those involved in foster care for a moment of sharing and prayer.
Foster Care
The Arizona Family Counseling website noted that foster care is included in The Great Commission to disciple people.
They explained that through foster care, they could demonstrate the love of Jesus to kids whose biological parents do not know Jesus or do not have the tools to parent as God would want.
Moreover, the website stated that adoption could also describe God’s adoption to those who believe in Him. They added that foster care and adoption are processes just like discipleship that has methods.
According to them, it is the church’s nature to recognize this concept as they aim to care for kids.
Support for Foster Care
On the same website, they pointed out that the church could offer tools and contacts for families who want to discover the foster care ministry. They explained that they could also provide prayer and support groups for those already engaged in foster care.
As further mentioned, churches and their members must help without expecting a specific outcome. They said they should have an open hand in relationships with foster kids.
In addition, the Arizona Family Counseling noted that churches could honor God by respecting that foster care is a process. They emphasized that this ministry may not lead to adoption within the church, but it could result in adoption by God, and it glorifies Him.
The website emphasized what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians that he planted, Apollos watered, but God made the growth. He stressed in the Scripture that only God could give the development of someone.
Challenges of Adopted Children
According to the Considering Adoption website, everyone is shaped by their experiences regardless if the person is adopted or not. They explained that adopted individuals would differ significantly in how their adoption affects them.
More importantly, they emphasized that adoption is a long-term experience. The website noted that it has unique rewards and struggles that the kid may encounter at some point in their journey.
As further stated, despite having a positive experience with adoption, some people may still have challenges with grief and loss. They added that some might suffer from dealing with their confidence and identity.
Besides, others may face emotional and learning challenges, as noted on the website.
Managing Post-Adoption Issues
On the same website, they revealed that adoption-related issues might arise for adopted kids and their parents. They suggested how parents could help their children during post-adoption points.
The website stated that parents could help their kids by openly and honestly communicating. They explained that they should not force their child to talk if they are not ready.
In addition, they noted that they have to make adoption a common subject of conversation and ensure the child knows that they can openly share their feelings.
