North Decatur United Methodist Church to create Thanksgiving baskets for homeless community

The North Decatur United Methodist Church will create and deliver Thanksgiving baskets for homeless households in DeKalb County.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Nov. 5, the North Decatur United Methodist Church announced that it would create Thanksgiving baskets for 75 households facing homelessness in DeKalb County and distribute them from the Fellowship Hall.

The donors can help distribute the food by emailing the church office and can help fill the holiday table of a family in need.

The church has also called for non-perishable items, including mashed potatoes, canned green beans, canned corn, cornbread mix, stuffing, canned greens, and mac and cheese.

According to the post, interested donors may bring it with them on Sunday, Nov. 14.

North Decatur United Methodist Church's Worship Service

Due to changing COVID-19 and immunization rates in 2020 and 2021, the North Decatur United Methodist Church's service selections and timings have changed regularly, according to the church.

The church will offer both online and in-person worship options starting in the fall of 2021.

According to the website, everyone is welcome to worship in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. North Decatur church members and attendees listen to wonderful music while praying for the community and the world.

They can also hear sermons before closing with communion and singing outside, according to the website.

Church's Health Protocols

The COVID-aware North Decatur United Methodist Church is located in Decatur, Georgia. According to the church's website, masks are required for the safety of the workers and others.

When attendees arrived, they were also obliged to sign in. According to the church's website, they no longer pass an offering plate or share hymnals, and they do not sing inside.

According to the church, the sanctuary is cleaned a few hours before service begins.

The North Decatur United Methodist Church wanted everyone to feel safe while maintaining a worshipful and meditative atmosphere.

'Trunk or Treat'

The North Decatur United Methodist Church held its annual "Trunk or Treat" event on Sunday, Oct. 24.

According to the church's website, the Methodist church's traditional festival is back on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The church's website stated that the celebration would take place in front of the church's parking lot.

Participants were invited to sign up to hand out candy from their decorated car trunks by the North Decatur United Methodist Church.

The church also encouraged kids to dress up in their own imaginative and exciting outfits.

The North Decatur, however, noted that participants must wear masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections, according to the church's website.
