Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church opens winter clothing drive for Mercy Community Church

Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church opened a winter clothing drive to help Mercy Community Church's members.

According to its Facebook post, the church is asking for the public's help and has set up a donation box in its lobby. 

The church said items needed include men's jackets, gloves, skull caps, hoodies, blankets, hand warmers, and sleeping bags rated for temperatures down to zero degrees Fahrenheit. It added that preferable sizes are large to two extra large.

Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church is a Christian community. According to its website, it aims to be a welcoming, caring, and inclusive community of faith while fulfilling its goal of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Per the about page, everyone is welcome at the church, which heeds Christ's command to reach out to and support other places of worship. 

Love, grace, inclusivity, creative expression, and service are some of its core principles. Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church seeks to help and invite people into its church life. The church believes art and other forms of creative expression are ways people can celebrate God's grace, the website reads.

Ministries

The ministries page revealed that Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church supports many ministries within and beyond its walls.

Within the church, the community extends pastoral care to its congregation.

The site also shared the church offers prayer, meals, cards, rides, home communion, and special worship services.

Sunday morning programming and other opportunities that come up offer to grow closer in relationships with one another and more profound in faith. The church wants to establish a safe atmosphere where the member's faith can be questioned, stimulated, and deepened, the page said.

Oglethorpe Presbyterian Preschool is an institution for kids in Atlanta. Aside from this, the church also provides prayer resources and service opportunities to other metro Atlanta ministries, the church revealed.

It includes Suthers Center for Christian Outreach, Mercy Community Church, Covenant House, Habitat for Humanity, and Atlanta Ministry with International Students.

Mercy Community Church 

Mercy Community Church is a grassroots, ecumenical, open, and affirming congregation that meets in the basement of a big church on a busy street in the heart of Atlanta, as per its website.

It believes God desires life, health, dignity, and sanctuary for his followers. It is a community open for all and opens multiple days of the week for prayer, worship, study, fellowship, breaking bread, and sharing food, clothing, and hospitality, the about page bared.

The church also relies on groups, volunteers, donors, students, and partners to sustain the plethora of engaging activities, meals, gatherings, and opportunities it hosts weekly, per the website.

Mercy Community Church said seminary students looking for a church to intern with, a church interested in partnering with its ministry, or an individual looking to get more involved in your community. It values building mutual relationships and a healthy community, the page reads.
