Peachtree Christian Church will hold various activities for the Holy Week from April 2 to 9.

The church’s website noted that they would kick off the occasion by having a parade with Jesus and the disciples as they celebrate the victorious entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. They announced they would also have a service and a complimentary Mediterranean lunch.

Holy Week Activities

The church announced they would host a Light Supper in Burns Hall at 6 p.m. and an Evening Service in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 6.

Moreover, they encourage the congregation to eat and drink with them as they hold an intimate service. They added that they wanted to commemorate the Passover Jesus shared with his friends and followers before his arrest.

The next day, the church would hold Stations of the Cross in Spiritual Pathway from 11 a.m. to 11:24 a.m. They explained that they would follow a self-guided meditation of God’s word and visual art along the Spiritual Pathway on the third floor before they entered the sanctuary.

As further explained, the congregation could remember the Passion of Christ during their service and leave in silence.

More importantly, Peachtree Christian Church will celebrate Jesus’ resurrection on Sunday, April 09. They invite the members to rejoice with them as they prepare programs for children.

Easter Lilies

The same website posted that the church encourages its members to donate lilies for their decorations on Easter Sunday.

Peachtree Christian Church explains in another section that giving an Easter lily is one way to decorate the Sanctuary and raise funds for the youth ministry. They pointed out that these flowers are to give honor or in memory of a loved one.

The website stated that the lilies cost $15 each and they could purchase them on April 02. The members could choose the number of lilies they would like to buy on their registration website. Then they added that they could answer the questions on how they would like their names to be listed in Order of Worship on Sunday, April 9.

Holy Week's Backstory

The Britannica website revealed that the term Holy Week was used in the fourth century by St. Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, and St. Epiphanius of Constantia. They explained that only Good Friday and Holy Saturdays were originally practiced as holy days.

As further mentioned, they later added Wednesday as the day Judas planned to betray Jesus. Then by the start of the third century, they included the other days of the week, as stated on the website.

According to the website, the pre-Nicene church focused its celebration on one great feast, the Christian Passover. This event is on the night between Saturday and Easter Sunday morning, as the website mentions.

Moreover, they pointed out that the practice had begun separating various events and commemorating them on the days of the week later in the fourth century. They remember Juda’s betrayal and the institution of the Eucharist on Maundy Thursday.

Then, they said that they remembered the Passion and death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and his burial on Saturday. The website revealed that they started celebrating Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday.
