Redeemer Lutheran Church started its high school mission trip fundraiser on Sunday, March 5.
The church’s Facebook page mentioned that the 12 students and two of their adult leaders will go to Arecibo, Puerto Rico, this June. They explained that they needed to raise $10,000 and had already collected $843.
Partnership with YouthWork
The same post noted that the church’s youth program has been collaborating with YouthWorks for a long time.
Redeemer Lutheran Church stated that they appreciate that the organization offers Christ-centered mission trip experiences.
Besides, their programs could positively impact the communities they work with, such as the youth who are stretched and challenged through a week of service.
According to the post, the church’s high school students were to Chicago in 2017 and Puerto Rico in 2019. They noted that their current youth have never experienced going on a mission trip because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The church emphasized that they desire to return to Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to assist the community with the recent natural disasters and other needs.
Raising Funds for Puerto Rico
The church’s website explained to members how they could help in raising funds to support the 12 high school students who would join the trip.
Members could drop by their table in Sims Atrium from March 05 to April 09. They could get an envelope and an amount. The church informed them they accept credit cards, cash, or checks.
Mission Trip's Theme
Redeemer Lutheran Church highlighted the theme for the trip, which is “You are Here.” They stated that even when life is full of good things, it could still be overwhelming since people must pay attention to everything.
The website says people must pay attention to their homework, work, family, friends, and entertainment. Some could find themselves rushing through life or eaten by busyness and countless options, as mentioned on the website.
They emphasized that these things could help them realize God is inviting them into truth.
In addition, the theme reminds the people that when they are on a journey, it helps them to get their bearings. They said it could help them discover the spot on a map that tells them, “You are Here.”
According to the Bible, if people learned to slow down and look to Jesus, they could get a vivid focus on their lives. They stated that they are here to love God as their Lord and love their neighbor.
Moreover, they explained that people are here to share what they have and who they are. Besides, they mentioned that they are here to be united as they learn to live like Jesus.
