Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church will participate in the Atlanta Community Food Bank 5K Hunger Walk Run on Sunday, March 12.

The church’s Facebook page announced that all funds collected would proceed to help the Food Bank’s initiatives of ending hunger in Atlanta. They noted that they aim to raise $2,000, and donations of every amount would make a positive change toward dismantling food insecurity in their backyard.

It believes that God called them to carry one another’s loads. Through their efforts, they said that they had accomplished the command of Jesus in the Scripture of Galatians 6:2.

They encouraged members to help them carry the burden of food scarcity by donating to their fundraising.

Community Hunger

The Atlanta Community Food Bank revealed that one in seven kids would sleep hungry every night. They added that 611,000 individuals are projected to suffer from food insecurity.

As further emphasized, one in nine Georgians is reported to be food insecure.

The website stated that with every dollar people donate, they could offer enough food for up to four meals.

Also, they mentioned that Atlanta Community Food Bank works with about 700 community-based nonprofit food distribution partners. These agencies include food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, and more.

Moreover, the website reported that they have given out 79.3 million meals to vulnerable individuals in their fiscal year, which ended on June 30, 2022.

Feeding Neighbors, Transforming Lives

In another section, Atlanta Community Food Bank noted that they seek to fight hunger by becoming involved, educating, and strengthening their community. They explained that they belong to Feeding America, the country’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity.

As further mentioned, Feeding America comprises more than 200 food banks.

According to the website, the organization is the central hub in the advocacy of fighting against hunger in Atlanta and north Georgia. They highlighted that their primary role is gathering and giving donated food and goods.

In addition, their function is to navigate all of the logistics and partner connections that go with it, as noted on the website. Besides, they explained that they provide some social services directly to those marginalized individuals.

Moreover, the website revealed that the organization has some supplemental food pantries and mobile markets to distribute food to underserved areas that its partner agencies could not reach.

Food, Physical Distribution

The same website revealed that the organization receives about nine million pounds of donated food and grocery products monthly. They said that 22% of these foods are freshly produced.

It added that individuals and local food industries such as manufacturers, distributors, farmers, and retailers had donated these goods.

In addition, the Atlanta Community Food Bank explained that their primary distribution processes guarantee hungry neighbors in the community have access to healthy food when needed.

According to them, they work with other groups to give out food in conjunction with their programming. They pointed out that people who suffer from food insecurity often seek help with healthcare, job training, and other needs to help them be independent.
