Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia has invited the public to the first Theology on Tap.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Aug. 25, the church invited those aged 21 and 35 to join for a modern, welcoming, non-judgmental take on figuring out people's faith together.

According to the church, its first Theology on Tap was held this Sunday, Aug. 28 at the “Parson’s Pub” - the private pub of Mark and Beth LaRocca-Pitts.

The church said they will gather once a month to discuss how theology relates to daily lives and the wider world.

All are welcome to join this fall, and the church hopes they will, according to the church.

Serving God in Heart of Midtown Atlanta

The church said they are thrilled that everyone is visiting them. In the center of Midtown Atlanta, they are a loving, accepting, and serving community of believers.

No matter where they are in life, they greet everyone as God's children. Everyone is welcome here, according to the church.

They may explore each of the website's links to find out more about the church and how they can help in the mission of embracing, loving, and serving.

The church said they may email a member of the clergy or staff if they have any queries. It added that they are here to help everyone in any way they can.

At Saint Mark, anyone can become a member by professing their faith in Jesus Christ, renewing their commitment after a long absence, or transferring their membership from another Christian denomination, the church said.

Both the Administrative Assistant to the Clergy and one of the pastors will get in touch with everyone, according to the church.

No matter where they live or where they are right now, they want to welcome everyone to the community, the church said.

The church said all who believe in Jesus Christ are welcome to join everyone at their open table and as members.

Church’s Identity

According to the church, the First Methodist Church, which is situated at Walton and Forsyth, began as a mission in a house north of what is currently Eighth Street on the east side of Peachtree Street.

The church said the section of Peachtree between present-day Eighth and Twelfth Streets was once known as "Tight Squeeze" and looped around a thirty-foot ravine that ran east from present-day Crescent Avenue down toward Piedmont Avenue.

It has been a haven for thieves and cutthroats since the Civil War, according to the church.

The church went on to explain how it got its nickname, which is the expression "tight squeeze, getting through there with your life.”

The "Peachtree Street Mission" or the "City Mission" was established, and the mission was relocated to Merritts Avenue, which connects Peachtree and Courtland Streets, according to the church.

Although numerous dates have been suggested for the transfer, the church claims that 1875 is the most widely acknowledged, the church said.
