Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta brings back annual 'Sounds of Christmas' concert

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, announced the return of its annual "Sounds of Christmas" concert on Sunday, Dec. 12.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Dec. 8, the Shallowford Presbyterian Church said the annual concert was held on Sunday at 4 p.m.

According to the church's post, the free community-based concert featured an instrumental ensemble and the Shallowford's combined choirs.

The church said the event was offered both in-person and online versions of this yearly tradition.

Church's Three Week-series of Counseling Services

The public is invited to a three-week series of counseling services beginning today, Monday, Nov. 29 at the Shallowford Presbyterian Church.

Shallowford Presbyterian Church announced on Facebook on Wednesday, Nov. 24, that a three-week course called "Turning Toward the Light of Goodness" will begin on Monday at the Shallowford Family Counseling Center.

According to the church, this will be a transformative period for the congregation.

The public is invited to join Robby and Kay on their advent journey as they examine how to construct paths for understanding one's own and others' innate goodness, according to the Shallowford Presbyterian Church.

The church announced on its website that it would gather in person, online, in a peaceful, focused, and safe environment, allowing the participants to tune out the noise around them and within them.

Spiritual practices for mindful awareness that attune the hearts and minds will be taught to participants.

According to the church's shared event page, Robby Carroll, M.Div., LMFT, and Kay Stewart, M.Ed, of the Shallowford Family Counseling Center, will guide this three-part course through zoom.

The series will begin on Mondays, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, and Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom (online).

According to the church, the effort is supported by studies at the intersection of ancient contemplative knowledge and modern western neuroscience and psychology.

It is informed by a number of evidence-based approaches, ranging from trauma research to mindfulness and emotional intelligence.

Shallowford Presbyterian Church's Advent Service

On Tuesday, Nov. 30, the Shallowford Presbyterian Church hosted a unique Advent service.

The church announced that it held a time of preparation for the Advent season on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. in the church's chapel.

According to the post, the Shallowford Presbyterian women will organize a one-of-a-kind ceremony to reflect on ordinary individuals doing extraordinary things collectively.

The church said four female forebears of Jesus will be featured during the liturgy. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Great Hall.

Worship Service

According to its website, the Shallowford Presbyterian Church is a faith community and congregation dedicated to worship, care, mission, and spiritual growth.

The church said a 30-minute service with scripture, hymns, and a sermon would be held in the chapel every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. This session will appeal to early risers and those seeking a more intimate worship experience.

During worship and Sunday School programs, the church will give many chances for individuals of all ages to learn about, understand, and apply Christianity in their daily lives.
