The Shallowford Presbyterian Church has invited the public for a three-week series of counseling services starting today, Monday, Nov. 29.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Nov. 24, the Shallowford Presbyterian Church announced that the Shallowford Family Counseling Center hosts a three-week series entitled “Turning Toward the Light of Goodness” starting on Monday.

The church said it believed that it is going to be a transformational time for the congregation.

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church has encouraged the public to join Robby and Kay on their advent journey as they explore how to build pathways for seeing one's own and others' inherent goodness.

The church announced on its website that it will meet in person, online, in a calm, focused, and safe setting, allowing the noise surrounding and within the participants to fade away.

Participants would learn about spiritual activities for mindful awareness that attune the hearts and minds.

Class Details

The Shallowford Family Counseling Center's Robby Carroll, M.Div., LMFT, and Kay Stewart, M.Ed will be the guides through this three-part series via zoom, according to the church's shared event website.

The series will take place on Mondays Nov. 29, Dec. 6, and Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom (online).

According to the church, the work is supported by research at the intersection of ancient contemplative wisdom and modern western neuroscience and psychology.

From trauma research to mindfulness and emotional intelligence, it is informed by a variety of evidence-based approaches.

It corresponds to the lived experience, as well as spiritual practices and disciplines that people know to be basic and supportive of relating to people with greater openness, inquiry, and compassion.

Participants can pay what they can, according to the church, and there is no pressure.

Larger donations assist to keep the programs running and support scholarships for individuals who can't afford to pay but still want to participate.

Advent Service

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church will hold a special Advent service on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church announced that it would hold a time of preparation for the Advent season on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the church.

The Shallowford Presbyterian women members will host the unique service, according to the post, in which they will collectively reflect on ordinary people accomplishing remarkable things.

The church announced that the service will feature four female ancestors of Jesus during the event. There will be a reception in the Great Hall following the service.

Church’s Worship

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church, according to its website, is a faith community and congregation dedicated to worship, care, mission, and spiritual growth.

The church said a 30-minute service with scripture, hymns, and a sermon would be held in the chapel every Sunday at 8:30 a.m., according to the church website. Early risers and those seeking a more intimate worship experience will enjoy this session.
