Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia to hold three-day retreat for men

Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia is set to hold a men’s retreat.

According to the church’s website, the event will be a weekend retreat getaway to be held from Aug. 12 to 14, Friday to Sunday, at Unicoi State Lodge.

The church said the participants will gather around the campfire on Friday evening at 8 p.m. and spend Saturday learning and growing together.

Shallowford Presbyterian Church also stated that there will be hiking, many shared meals together, and more fellowship.

According to the church, the Shallowford Men's Retreat is also honored to welcome Rev. Travis Adams. 

Rev. Adams will attend the campfire fellowship on Friday night and spend Saturday leading them in a session titled "What Did His Brother Have to Say?" He will be focusing on the Book of James.

The church said Rev. Adams will also assist in coming up with ideas for how they are called to be the church both together then and now.

For the retreat fee, the church said the registration fee covers two nights' hotel, two breakfasts, and a Saturday night dinner.

The church provided the details for the fees, which include a room for one person that costs $275, and a room share that costs $140. On the other hand, a room for scholarships is free.

It also encouraged the public to sign up early in order to ensure and reserve enough rooms for everybody.

The registration also covers the lodging, breakfast, and dinner on Saturday, it added.

Rev. Travis Adams

According to the church's website, Rev. Adams is a retired founding minister of Mountain Presbyterian Church in Blairsville, GA. 

The church said he graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary and majored in biblical languages and biblical exegesis. 

Adams has led many youth and adult camps, conferences, and retreats during his ministry, according to the church. The church said he is married to Kathy Carter Adams. 

They have three wonderful sons and daughters in laws and five precious grandchildren, it added. 

He looks forward to sharing and discussing with the Shallowford men the understanding of James and how we are to be the body of Christ, according to the church.

Discovering Church

Thrice a year, "Discovering Shallowford" classes are offered, giving everyone the chance to learn about the congregation's mission and goals as well as what it means to be a Christian in the twenty-first century, according to the church's website

The classes are also where individuals might start to feel at home in this congregation's life and ministry, the church said. 

Shallowford Presbyterian Church said the session meets for two Sundays in a row from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. 

It added that all who declare Jesus Christ to be their Lord, acknowledge their dependency on God's grace, and intend to actively engage in the church's worship and mission are eligible to join.

The church stated that those who intend to go should let the church office know in advance.
