Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta welcomes new guest organist

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia welcomed its new organist in the church this February.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Jan. 27, the Shallowford Presbyterian Church said it welcomed William Fred Scott as guest organist this month.

According to the post, Scott was involved in the Atlanta music scene and it has been a gift to the city since 1981.

The church invited the public to hear Scott play in person or online Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. for the months of February and March.

Fred Scott

According to the Shallowford Presbyterian Church’s website, Scott was a former conductor and artistic director of Atlanta Opera.

He was also a former director of Choral Music in The Westminster Schools, according to the church.

It added that he was also a former conductor and artistic director at Chanticleer.

The church said he was also a board member in Franklin Pond.

Church’s Mini-retreat

A two-part mini-retreat on developing mindfulness practice was held at the Shallowford Presbyterian Church.

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church invited the public to join the two-part mini-retreat via Zoom on Thursday, Jan. 27, and Thursday, Feb. 3.

The two-part mini-retreat focused on finding the benefits of mindfulness practice, according to the article. The retreat took place on Thursday, Jan. 27 and another one will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., according to the church. It focused on rediscovering the advantages of mindfulness practice.

Church’s Worship Service

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shallowford Presbyterian Church held an online worship service.

The Shallowford Presbyterian Church issued guidelines for online worship and outdoor communions on Facebook to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections.

An online worship service was held on Sunday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m., according to the church. According to the church, an outside communion was also held at 2 p.m.

The public was invited to bring their own chair, dress warmly, and attend a 20-minute prayer and liturgy session at the Shallowford Presbyterian Church.

Attendees were encouraged to park in the lower parking lot or along the perimeter of the upper parking lot and gather under the portico in the top parking lot, according to the church.

Meanwhile, the Presbyterian church has announced that it would host online worship on Saturday, Jan. 15.

On Sunday, Jan. 23, at 8:30 a.m., an in-person service was held in the sanctuary. according to the notice, between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Only 150 people were permitted to take part, while masks and social distance were required.
