Cincinnati Bible Seminary alumna to be inducted as one of Sebring High School’s '2023 Distinguished Alumni'

The Alumni Association of Sebring High School announced its 2023 Distinguished Alumni, which included Dr. Suzanne Holt, a bachelor's degree holder from Cincinnati Bible Seminary and Milligan College.

Suzanne, who graduated from Sebring High School in 1973, currently holds positions as the director of women's studies, a professor, and an online developer at Kent State University. 

She obtained a Master's degree in English language and literature as well as a Ph.D. from Kent State's School of Communication. 

Along with Suzanne, three additional alumni from the 1970s will be honored at a brunch on April 22 at the Almost Home Banquet Center in Sebring.

The distinguished alumni will serve as guest speakers at the event, which the community is welcome to attend. 

Tickets to the brunch cost $22 each, and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase 50/50 raffle tickets, with proceeds going towards the Alumni Association's Senior Scholarship Fund. 

Other 2023 Inductees

The 2023 Distinguished Alumni inductees also include James Seffens and Deborah Baker Weibush, along with Dr. Sheryl Holt, who is Suzanne's twin sister and a member of Sebring High School's Class of 1973. 

Sheryl is currently the University of Mount Union's director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. 

She earned her undergraduate degree in physical therapy at Georgia State University.

Meanwhile, she completed her graduate degree at The Ohio State University.

Afterward, she went to the University of Kentucky and obtained her Ph.D. in rehabilitation science. 

Sheryl is also an accomplished author and researcher who has published numerous papers in her field.

Meanwhile, James Seffens, who graduated from Sebring High School in 1972, is an artist who runs his studio, Jim Seffens Studio, in New York City. 

Seffens is a college alumnus of Ohio State University.

His artistic endeavors include wood construction, mixed media, modeling, visual merchandising, home interiors, and creating shadow box assemblages. 

Seffens has been featured on Antiques Road Show FYI, and his work is showcased in various galleries and exhibitions.

On the other hand, Debbie Weibush, who graduated from Sebring High School in 1970, dedicated her career to education.

She served as a teacher in Canton Central Catholic, Alliance City Schools, and Sebring Local Schools. 

After teaching for 42 years, she retired in 2021. 

Weibush graduated magna cum laude from Kent State University and obtained her master's degree in biology education from Youngstown State University. 

As a math and science teacher, she established the Ecology Club and the Wind River Science Club, which involved taking students on trips to the Teton Science School in Wyoming and the Marine Lab in Key Largo.

Sebring High School

Sebring High School, situated in Florida, is a public school and is one of the six high schools in the Highlands School District.

It is rated above average and has a total of 1,220 students enrolled in grades PK, 9-12, with a student-teacher ratio of 18 to 1. 

Per the state test results, 42% of the students show proficiency in math and 51% in reading. 

Moreover, according to US News, Sebring High School is ranked 338th among all schools in Florida, and it offers Advanced Placement® courses and exams for students. 

The school has an AP® participation rate of 36%. 

The total minority enrollment of the school is 48%, and 47% of the students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
