The First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati will start the “Hindsight, Humor & Hope: Who Me, An Elder?” classes on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The church’s Facebook page announced that the course is a program to help people as they start to redesign their later years into a moment of reflection. They explained that the UUA developed these classes to support elders in their discernment, soul stretching, and new opportunities in life.

As further mentioned, the gift of more years finds many individuals becoming old with deeply personal questions about their identity and purpose.

Moreover, the First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati said they would have in-person and online classes on the first and third Wednesdays from February to April.

Church Community

The church’s website states they are a welcoming congregation composed of different, loving, and dedicated people. They added that they offer a place and framework for analyzing the spiritual questions of individuals and the community.

In addition, the church serves by nurturing each one’s spirit through God’s words, music, and gathering. They noted that every generation learns from them through teaching ethics, a sense of morality, and striving for personal and shared truths.

They emphasized that they are united in making their world more compassionate and respectful.

Congregational Care

In another section, the church said that one core spiritual practice for Unitarian Universalists is caring for each other. The church’s Pastoral care offers help and compassion to each member of its community, as further explained on the website.

Besides, they mentioned that they promote pastoral care to all generations because the church believes it could help a person, even simply. They said they could send a card for a birthday or support someone who might want to end their life.

More importantly, the website revealed that all church members vow to join in caring for one another regardless of their season. The church wants to build a foundation of loving and trusting one another.

According to the same website, members of the First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati vow to think that people have good motives and listen openly to them. Also, they promise to communicate thoughtfully and respectfully, as further noted.

In addition, the church members should be direct and honest in conversations. They emphasized that they should be willing to keep things private and prevent themselves from participating in gossip.

More importantly, as posted on the website, they mentioned that they should be willing to reconcile by forgiving and making peace when they hurt each other.

Pastoral Care

Meanwhile, the website also explained that providing pastoral care means reaching out to any church members in laughter or tears, regardless of their age. They added that the church wants to connect with a minister, professional counselor, or Extended Ministry team member.

In addition, the church’s team provides tools for self-care, managing stress, and professional counseling, as mentioned on the website. They also acknowledge the suitable ways to help the members with their particular needs.
