Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church to join march in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church (UMC) will participate in the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Coalition’s commemorative march with a prayer service on Monday, Jan. 16.

The church’s Facebook page announced that the Ohio River Valley Stop Racism Task Force encouraged all United Methodists to join the event. 

March Participation

Hyde Park Community UMC noted that those interested in joining could gather outside the Freedom Center by 10:30 a.m. They said that they would have an interdenominational prayer mass to start the holy and spirit-filled re-enactment of the civil rights era.

The church’s Facebook page also posted that participants would witness a re-enactment of marches for equality, dignity, and justice. 

In addition, the church explained that the march would end at Washington Park with another prayer service. As stated on the page, the organizers would provide free Rosa Parks Bus for those who could not walk the mile uphill in the cold.

Moreover, Hyde Park Community UMC encouraged its members to join the commemorative event in the Music Hall. They highlighted that there would be the award-winning MLK Chorale and guest performers. 

Besides, the participants would also hear from motivational speakers during the event, as noted on the page.

About MLK Coalition

According to the MLK Coalition website, the primary reason for the group is to empower the diverse human community through advocacy and practice of non-violence and understanding. 

They explained that to fulfill their mission, they keep the memory, principles, and philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. alive. They conduct commemorative events annually in Cincinnati, Ohio, to act out their goals, as mentioned on the website.

Besides, the organization stated they host activities by Coalition to achieve their purpose. 

Community Events of MLK Coalition

Aside from the Coalition Day celebration, the MLK Coalition also conducts community events, as revealed in another website section. They explained that the organization reaches out to their community at the annual Juneteenth Celebration.

As further mentioned, they have prepared a booth to connect with people during the event. The website added that sometimes they host a community program in the spring. 

The organization highlighted that they had produced a forum to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination in April 2018.

Promoting Legacy

On the MLK Coalition homepage, they emphasized that they are proud to advocate for Dr. King’s legacy. They said they were pleased to promote his bravery and dedication to ending racial inequality.

Moreover, they posted that they are looking for new members and leaders to join them in their advocacy. They explained that the membership is available to those dedicated to Dr. King’s vision.

In addition, the website emphasized the MLK Coalition partners, including the City of Cincinnati Office of Human Relations.

MLK Chorale

On the same website, MLK featured its MLK Chorale, an all-volunteer choral team. They stated that they welcome newcomers all the time. They said they do not have any audition process for those interested in joining.

The website said that the organization recommends those with chorale singing experience or those who can read music.
