Mount Carmel Christian Church started The Giving Tree, a gift-giving event for vulnerable families, on Monday, Nov. 7. The event will last until Sunday, Dec. 10.

The Giving Tree

Mount Carmel Christian Church said it thinks one of the finest things is being able to share pleasure with others, and they thought The Giving Tree as the perfect opportunity to do that.

According to the church’s announcement, gift cards are offered so that families can spend as they see fit, or families might choose to receive assistance with their holiday gift shopping in the form of actual presents.

Participants were encouraged to send gift cards to either Wal-Mart or Target in amounts ranging from $25 to $50 so that they can be distributed to families. However, the church said it does not take e-cards at this time.

Aside from that, the requests for physical gifts will be posted on tags that will be hung on a tree in the foyer. These gifts should be brought back unopened with the tag still attached.

Additionally, as per the announcement, Mount Carmel will be integrating Amazon Wishlist to make it possible for anybody to make purchases online and have them delivered directly to the Giving Tree.

On the Christmas tree in the foyer, there will be gift tags reflecting the various items that have been requested. Mount Carmel suggests bringing back the items to the church and making any purchases from the church's Amazon Wishlist by Dec. 11.

On the other hand, Mount Carmel Christian Church will hold an all-in Thanksgiving for middle school and high school students on Nov. 20, according to a post

The students are encouraged to bring their preferred main dish, side dish, and/or dessert to the event. This event is going to be a fantastic evening complete with good food and good company for everyone.

About Mount Carmel Christian Church

At the Columbia Church of Christ, six families from Beechmont Drive reported that they were unable to start their vehicles due to icy weather.

On that particular Sunday, they gathered at one of their homes for a worship service. The need for a more convenient church location became apparent at that time.

60 members left Columbia in July 1968 to form a new church. Every Sunday, the middle school in Glen Este was transformed into a place of worship for the church. Vacation Bible Schools were held at people's homes during the summer.

Clough Heights Church of Christ was its original name. However, the family's attempt to buy property on Clough Pike was unsuccessful.

As stated in the church’s history, as a result of the sale of the former Behymer Farm, more space was made available. In 1970, the church bought five acres of land on Mt. Carmel Tobasco Road.

The name was changed to "Mount Carmel Church of Christ," and services were held in the property's abandoned farmhouse. The original church structure was erected in 1973.

The church bought 19.2 acres on Bach Buxton Road in 2008 and continued to grow. Construction on the new Bach Buxton Road location began in the late spring of 2014, and the inaugural worship service was held there on Jan. 11, 2015.
