Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church (MBC) at 1415 Cushing St. will host “Movie Night In Tha 4” by E4WMT members and partners. The event is scheduled for March 18, 6 p.m., and is free to the public.
Details of the Event
According to an Eventbrite post, the public is requested to reserve a spot for the free movie showing to manage the potential crowd. The event falls on a Saturday, so the organizers urge families to be there and enjoy the four-hour outdoor film screening.
The announcement added that the monthly free pop-up cinema began on Feb. 18 and would continue each month, with limited slots offered each time.
Those who would attend the screening should expect free movies and ‘educational presentations and sports.’ Event organizers would also serve complimentary candies, popcorn, drinks, and flavored pickles, the announcement says.
Moreover, there would be food trucks manned by budding chefs who prepare and serve food items to families watching the films.
The Eventbrite post reminds everyone interested in attending the outdoor film screening to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and pillows to keep them comfortable while the screening is underway.
The post also mentioned rental mattresses on location; however, attendees are prohibited from bringing in a mattress inside the screening area.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., while the film showing will start at 6 p.m.
About Bible Way MBC
According to its website, Bible Way MBC began in 1963. Its first worship service coincided with Easter Sunday. Then, there were only five congregation members: Willie and Ida Scott, Martha Brown, and Freddie and Steve Mitchell.
Reverend Brown, the church’s first pastor, once worked as an assistant pastor under Mt. Horeb Baptist Church’s Rev. O.C. Johnson. The Lord reportedly spoke to him and directed him to 1301 Andrew St., where we would establish Bible Way.
Rev. Roosevelt Jackson eventually joined Brown as the latter’s assistant minister. Soon, new members entered the church: the Scott and Allen children, Johnnie Roberts, Daisy King, Percy King (first deacon), and Theresa Cockrell (first matron).
The church initially rented 1301 Andrews for $10 a week but eventually bought it for 7,500 in 1974. The following year, the church bought a van prior to its transfer to 1415 Cushing St.
In November 1978, the church purchased a new property to become its new home. Bible Way MBC paid $60,000 to the Greater Emmanuel Church of God in Christ for the Cushing property. And on Jan. 7, 1979, the church transferred to its current location.
