Miami University's Residency Program Grant
In an article from the Journal-News, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded over $170,000 grant to the Miami University residency program.
As reported, the grant aims to conduct a two-week residency program to expand the knowledge and understanding of the educators of the university about religious education.
The project also aims to develop educators to create a new and high-quality curriculum that will engage the students to learn from Muslim-American history and experiences.
The two-week program of the university will reportedly allow 25 educators to gain knowledge through engaging with books, field trips, and discussions.
Aside from that, the project will serve as a key to deepening their knowledge of other religions. They will also gain a more welcoming approach to students of different religions.
Kathleen Knight-Abowitz, the program's coordinator and Miami University professor, said that the project was a joint interest of her and Elizabeth Wilson, a professor in the Department of Comparative Religion at the university.
Accordingly, Abowitz is interested in making schools more diverse for everyone's religion. This would reportedly ensure everyone they are loved and understood by the school community regardless of their religion.
Meanwhile, Wilson is interested in expanding the knowledge of people of different religions in society.
As reported, Abowitz and Wilson were thrilled about the project. They said that it was new to them and that it was their first time receiving a grant from the federal government.
Moreover, the project was reportedly part of the university's mission, to broaden the knowledge about religious education.
