OLL 3rd Annual PigNic Challenge

According to the Eventbrite post, the third annual PigNic Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

It will take place at Our Lady of the Lakes Church/School, 6600 Miami Lakeway North Miami Lakes, FL.

As mentioned, the Our Lady of the Lakes Church is thrilled about the event's return. Their past events were highly successful, with over one thousand people attending.

They were reportedly packed with exciting activities the whole family could enjoy together. Such activities include a bounce house, DJ all day, dominoes, games, and raffles.

In 2023, the event will continue to expand on the popularity of previous years by including even more teams in the competition, a new event layout, a Kid's Cookie Bake-Off, and other exciting new additions.

Moreover, activities, food, and drinks are included in the event.

The ticket costs $30 for adults (VIP), $20 for adults, and $10 for kids under 10 years old.

As further discussed in the post, one of the keys to PigNic's success was the incredible support from its sponsors.

Our Lady of the Lakes Church

Based on its website, the first Mass was held on a dairy farm when Our Lady of the Lakes Church started. It was a very humble beginning for the church.

At the first Mass in their newly established parish on Apr. 9, 1967, in the Barn Theater, 321 members were led in worship by their new pastor, Fr. Miguel Goni, who was from Spain.

When those families found out that the parish would be named 'St. Bernard,' they approached Bishop Coleman Carroll. They requested that their new parish be named in honor of Our Lady and under a designation reflecting the region's geographical nature.

Moreover, OLL reportedly continues to meet the needs of approximately 4,500 families from various cultural backgrounds through its active and multiple ministries, programs, and services.

On Sept. 1, 1968, the groundbreaking for a chapel, bell tower, and multi-purpose hall, in addition to an administrative structure that would provide office space and a residential area for priests, occurred.

On June 12, 1969, just two years after the parish was first established, Bishop John Fitzpatrick, Auxiliary Bishop of Miami, dedicated the chapel and the additional facilities.

Msgr. Francis Fazallaro managed a flourishing parish from 1970 to 1974, when Fr. Edmond Whyte became pastor.

He also oversaw the founding of the parish school in 1987, under the guidance of Sr. Carol Koester, RSM, and the construction of a permanent church.

From 1989 until 2011, Fr. James Murphy served as the church's pastor. During that time, it expanded into new areas while being known for its various community service initiatives.

As reported, their church and school community continued to flourish and advance under his direction and leadership.
