The Sierra Club of Miami has recently spearheaded its annual Priesthood Sunday through cards and messages.
The event was designed to encourage and support clergy, as reported.
Priesthood Sunday
In an article from the Archdiocese of Miami, the Priesthood Sunday was celebrated through cards in recognition of 120 parish priests in Monroe and Miami-Dade counties led by the Sierra Club of Miami.
It reportedly took place on Sept. 25.
Also, the Serrans created social media posts to promote the event and asked for prayers for the parish priests.
As reported, the schools and parishes also participated in the event.
The members of the St. Augustine Church and Catholic Student Center in Coral Gables created a banner for the event.
The student center also sent virtual notification cards of rosaries, Masses, hours of adoration that are reportedly dedicated to specific priests, and bouquets.
Moreover, the Sts. Peter and Paul School in Miami, the students also participated in the day. They created personalized cards to acknowledge their priest.
The church also posted a message for their priest in its bulletin to recognize them.
Further, Deacon Felipe Gomez of St. John Neumann parish in Miami recently offered a special blessing for the priests of the parish that was witnessed by the community.
In addition, Deacon Jorge Matamala of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Miami has blessed the four priests in the celebration of the annual pilgrimage of the archdiocese in Lourdes, France.
About Sierra Club of Miami
As per its website, the Sierra Club of Miami is a non-profit organization that promotes vocation to a life that followed the call of Jesus Christ, and to the priesthood under Serra International.
According to its brochure, it was founded in 1935 in Seattle when a small group that consists of laypeople decided to form an organization.
It was reportedly formally recognized as the global lay apostolate for vocations in the Catholic Church by the Holy See.
The organization has 20,000 Catholic lay people that are called ‘Serrans.’
The Serrans are composed of men and women from business, law, and medical fields, as well as retirees and stay-at-home workers, as reported.
As mentioned, the members of the organization are all dedicated to fulfilling the mission of the organization.
Thus, the Sierra Club of Miami chose Fr. Junipero Serra as their patron.
According to the Archdiocese of Miami, the Serra Club is working with bishops and other diocesan officials to promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
At present time, the organization has 12,500 members across the world with over 7,000 in the United States.
The members of the Miami chapter have reportedly doubled up from 49 to 96 over 12 months.
It has now 115 members with ages ranging from 16 to 96 years old.
The serrans not only encourage laymen to consider entering the priesthood but also motivate them to lead lives of holiness, as reported.
