In October, Oliver Marmol was promoted in St. Louis Cardinals as its new manager. Despite the success in his career, Marmol reportedly stays humble. He also cited his experience as a Christian and said he trusted God as he joined the team.
Oliver Marmol’s Christian Life
In a report from Sports Spectrum, Marmol shared his life before becoming a Cardinals’ manager. He said that his relationship with God had been tested in his early career.
As reported, both of Marmol’s brothers are now pastors in their own churches. He also met his wife, Amber, in a Bible study before marrying her.
Although it seemed like his family was connected with religious groups, it was not as easy as it might seem. His first brother, Ronnie, was the earliest Christian in Marmol’s family.
In the report, the young Oliver remembered his brother attending a Christian conference when they were still in Orlando. The changes in his brother were reportedly noticeable since Ronnie once tried drugs.
Oliver recalled hearing his brother say, “Man, there’s something I’ve been searching for and never really knew what it was.’”
Unfortunately, his now-other pastor brother, Will, had a different life back then.
For Oliver, that was when he realized to not become like Will and choose Christ in everything.
Trust God
Although Oliver already had his mind set to follow God at a young age, it was still not easy to follow Him all the time.
In his early career, Oliver was once planned to play in the Cape Cod League. His agent at the time strongly encouraged Marmol to attend to improve his play.
Ironically, Oliver’s discipler also asked him to attend a discipleship retreat called Summer Beach Project.
As said, the event was an eight-week retreat. Thus, once he attended, he would miss out on the Cape Cod League. Since Oliver’s dream was to start a career in baseball, he admitted in the report that he lied to his discipler when he said he would pray over his decision.
He was initially set to choose Cape Cod League over the eight-week retreat.
After a while, Oliver talked to his church leader and admitted to his lie. Instead of getting angry, his discipler reportedly advised him to pray genuinely about it.
Oliver recalled walking to campus after that conversation. He then prayed over his decision to pick which place to go. Surprisingly, Oliver shared that he heard God say to him to trust Him.
After that, “I called my agent, and I was like, ‘Hey, I’m not going to the Cape, I’m going to this Christian retreat,’ and he let me have it.”
Miraculously, after that retreat, Oliver said that everything worked out in his career.
Oliver Marmol as New Cardinals’ Manager
As he trusts God along the way, Oliver was recently promoted as the new St. Cardinals’ manager.
President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak expressed his joy in Oliver’s new position. He mentioned that Marmol has a “long history of being a part of the Cardinals organization.” Thus, making him an excellent choice for the position.
