175th Anniversary Events

The 175th anniversary of Atlanta First United Methodist Church is being commemorated this year, according to the church's website

The church, which was established in 1847, said it has a long history of devotion to God and the neighborhood and has fostered the spiritual growth of numerous eminent and charitable figures in Atlanta.

Standing on their shoulders, they now look forward in faith, anticipating worship that offers a fresh outlook for the future, Christian education that encourages radical faith development, and one-of-a-kind affordable housing and justice ministries that transform lives, according to the church.

The church also cordially invited the public to participate in the 175th celebration this fall.

It said that it highlights a few of the key themes in Atlanta First's life and legacy each week.

Discipleship, race, connectionism, ecumenism, art, architecture, music, family formation, education, land development, and other issues will be the main areas of discussion, according to the church.

Call to Serve

The church said everyone is called upon by Jesus to love their neighbors as they love themselves.

There is no greater expression of this love than to freely serve those neighbors who are in need, according to the church.

The church said this strengthens the people's own connections with God, for as Jesus taught when they have served "the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me."

At Atlanta First, the church said it understands that God desires for everyone to be in ministry beyond the walls of the church.

It also acknowledged that God has a plan to mend the brokenness in the creation and anticipates that He will use everyone as part of that plan.

The church also thanked everyone who contributed to the school supplies that will be donated to the Wellroot Family Services.

According to the church, it received over $250 worth of supplies, which have been delivered to the Wellroot Family Services for distribution to the foster children in their care.
