Buckhead Church will host a live simulcast parent summit on Saturday, March 11.

The church’s website highlighted that Andy and Sandra Stanley, Sissy Goff, and David Thomas would share their stories about parenting. They stated that Andy and Sandra Stanley would discuss their experiences and approach to disciplining their children.

According to them, the approach could allow parents to empower their relationships with their children.

In addition, they posted that Sissy Goff and David Thomas are licensed therapists that would discuss helpful ways to help children win over worry and cultivate resilience and develop courage, as stated on the website.

Parent Connect

In another section, Buckhead Church revealed that they offer Parent Connect, groups, and programs for parents of LGBTQ+ kids. They explained that these parents often feel that they are left behind.

The church offers this program to help them and get support from other parents. In this group, they help and train them to love their kid well, as explained on the website.

Moreover, the group is a mentor-led setting where they could learn about faith, grief, purpose, and other issues, as the website added. They said that these discussions could help parents manage their LGBTQ+ child.

According to them, the groups gather at the Parent Connect programs for an opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ issues and have group discussions. They added that they could also enjoy eating fellowship.

Room for Encouragement

One of the parents said on the website that the group was very encouraging. He emphasized that we felt amazed seeing a room with people coming together without having all the right answers.

Besides, he felt empowered to be with other parents working through the same situation they have. The parent noted that after attending one Parent Connect session, he felt grateful that the church opened this program.

As further mentioned, he felt full of respect and appreciation for the boldness it took the church to conduct this ministry.

Stages of Parenting

The Focus on the Family website highlighted Andy and Sandra Stanley’s general stages of parenting. They noted that the couple used these stages to navigate their children as parents.

They said that these processes express how parents should interact differently with their kids as they grow up. They stressed that it became a significant framework for them as parents.

According to them, the first stage is the Discipline years wherein it begins from zero to five years old. They stated that during this stage, they started to teach their children that there are outcomes for their attitude.

In addition, parenting kids from five to 12 years old is the Training years, as noted on the website. The couple mentioned that they focused on putting the reason behind their family’s rules and expectations.

The third stage discussed is the coaching years for children from 12 to 18 years old. The website pointed out that parenting occurs a bit more by giving advice from the sidelines. They added that the relationship levels up toward connecting instead of correcting.

More importantly, the couple mentioned that the last stage is the friendship years wherein they enjoy each other’s company and process life together as adults.
