More Missionaries Start Churches

According to Cascade United Methodist Church, the Christmas Conference meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, where the Methodist Episcopal Church was originally established, took place on Dec. 24, 1784.

The United Methodist Church and the Lordship of Christ have been served by tens of thousands of congregations throughout history, and Cascade is one of those congregations, according to the church. As a result, it claimed, they are relational rather than independent.

According to the church, the history of one Cascade family member is presented on its website.

The church claimed to have a history that spans more than 200 years, which is significantly longer than the history of just one congregation.

Two brothers named John and Charles Wesley arrived in America from England in 1735, according to Cascade United Methodist Church, and began serving as missionaries in Savannah, Georgia.

Church Building

After the young church had expanded to 120 members by Dec. 1, the founding pastor, Rev. S. A. F. Wagner, oversaw the construction of the first church structure on Richland Road on April 1, 1927, according to the church.

On Sept. 2, 1936, Mr. H.T. Pullen and Dr. G.H. Stegar donated the adjoining site at Richland Road and Cascade Avenue to the church, enlarging the property to allow for the construction of a larger, more permanent structure. The front of the new structure will face Cascade Avenue, it was added.

Rev. Dr. Kevin R. Murriel, the church's 22nd pastor, is devoted to maximizing Cascade's impact on the neighborhood and equipping its ministries, members, and visitors to be social justice conscious and spiritually aware, spreading the light of Cascade and the light of Christ throughout the city, state, nation, and world, the church claims.

The church's website states that a group of 18 to 20 persons had the idea to start a Methodist church in the Cascade area one evening in the fall of 1926 at Mrs. G.F. Jones' house at 1454 Beecher Street.

The first Cascade Methodist Episcopal Church South service, according to the church, was held on October 3, 1926, at a structure on Beecher Street close to Cascade Avenue.

The church claims the team was effective in accomplishing its goal. Elder Dr. W. T. Hunnicutt, the top elder, presided as it went on.
