The Druid Hills Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, held a farewell service to its historical instrument on Sunday, Oct. 24.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Oct. 22, the Druid Hills Presbyterian said its Aeolian Skinner Organ is set to undergo restoration at the end of October.

As a farewell service, the church held a special service of poetry and organ for the historical instrument, according to the post.

The Druid Hills said in the coming weeks, the organ will be dismantled and transported for restoration.

According to the post, it will be returned after over a year.

The church said the special service was the final opportunity to hear the instrument before being restored. They also expressed enthusiasm for the leadership of the Organ Restoration Task Force in a service that is sure to brim over the historical instrument’s beauty.

The special service was held in person and online live stream worship, according to the post.

Morning, Evening Circles for Women

In Atlanta, Georgia, the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church also held morning and evening circles for women last Tuesday, Oct. 12.

This year, all church ladies were welcome to join the Presbyterian women, according to the Druid Hills Presbyterian website.

The church said morning and evening circles were both held online via Zoom.

According to the church, its weekly zoom links page includes the zoom links for the sessions.

Racial Justice

During October, the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church has also focused on racial justice among children.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Oct. 6, the Presbyterian church preached racial justice using content from its bulletin.

According to the church's Facebook post, children around the country have begun the school year in the preceding several months.

On the other hand, schools fail to deliver an equal education to all students regularly, the church said, citing the report.

The church emphasized the importance of understanding the school-to-prison pipeline and the mechanisms that often prevent students of color from succeeding in school.

According to the church, participants were also asked how they could help both students and teachers of color in the classroom.

The church underscored the need to fund programs that enable diverse teaching staff to thrive and take steps to guarantee that the content offered to children in schools reflects students from a variety of backgrounds.

Food Pantry

According to the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church, volunteers are also needed for Intown Collaborative Ministries' food banks.

The Druid Hills Presbyterian Church announced the food pantry cooperation on Facebook on Sept. 20.

Individuals interested in volunteering at the Intown Collaborative Ministries' food pantry were welcomed at the church.

According to their website, the Intown Collaborative Ministries is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing and healing homelessness and hunger in Atlanta's Intown district. The pantry distribution is done at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
