Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church's youth group in Atlanta, Georgia sought for inexpensive furniture to make way for its halfway room.

In a Facebook post, the church said its youth group was looking for furniture that could be found for free or at a low cost to help establish a warm, welcoming space where the youth may come together to learn and grow.

The church said there is a specific need for couches and/or comfortable chairs, a shelf or two for books and crafting materials, and anything else that could liven up the area.

Among the following furniture needed were couches, comfy chairs, bookshelves or shelving, and fun decorations, it added.

Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church said they may email youthministry@opcbrookhaven.org with any questions or suggestions.

Church’s Mission

The rules established in the Book of Order must be followed by Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church as a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), according to the church's website.

According to the church, a session leader co-chairs each of the four teams that are tied to the mission statement—Connect, Grow, Serve, and Belong (Vision Support), as well as a fifth team called Stewardship.

It was also mentioned that the care ministry is overseen by deacons from Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church.

The church claimed they are responsible for strengthening the congregation's capacity for pastoral care and for reaching out to joyful or sad families in order to offer assistance.

The church gave examples of this in the context of meals, rides, cards, visits, and home communion.

Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church values the opportunity for spiritual development while strengthening interpersonal bonds.

They seek to establish a secure setting where people's religion can be investigated, rekindled, and expanded through Sunday morning activities and other opportunities that present themselves.

According to the church's website, it has been recognized as a partner in prevention for its efforts to "create a culture that better safeguards children." This program is taught to all church leaders and volunteers that interact with kids.

Worship Services

The worship services at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church are described as informal, expressively creative, and thoughtful.

According to the church, hymns are often sung to the accompaniment of an organ or piano. However, occasionally more modern music is used.

Additionally, the chancel choir practices each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. and sings an anthem during the church service on Sunday.

The church's handbell choir practices every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. and typically performs once each month at the church's Sunday morning services.

The church expressed its desire for the general public to use its musical talents to benefit the church.

Meanwhile, it also mentioned that each Sunday's service would be streamed live on Facebook for 15 minutes using Zoom. The church announced that they will utilize this time for online comments.

The worship videos will be put on the page the following week, the church assured people who do not use Facebook.

Visitors can return to observe the church's Facebook page's updates even though those movies are still available there.

It added that users could see the videos on the page by going to facebook.com/opcbrookhaven/videos.
