Catholic university adds four new Board of Trustees members

Thomas More University announced the addition of four individuals, who will assume their positions in June 2023, to its Board of Trustees. 

The new trustees will assume their positions in June 2023. 

According to Judith Marlowe ’69, Ph.D., the Chair of the Board of Trustees, having members who are both strategic thinkers and dedicated to advancing the university's mission is crucial for effective leadership.

Marlowe stated that it allows the university to take advantage of opportunities and overcome challenges.

With this, she stated that the university is delighted to welcome its new trustees, who bring with them diverse professional backgrounds and a strong appreciation for the education they received.

About Joseph Roesel

Both Roesel and his wife, Ellen are alumni of the university. 

Roesel pursued a degree in accountancy at Thomas More before earning his Master of Business Administration at Xavier University. 

He has since retired from his position as a chief financial officer at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. 

While attending Thomas More, Roesel was an active member of the basketball team and Alpha Delta Gamma (ADG) fraternity. 

Currently, he is a member of the Second Century Campaign Steering Committee and has previously served on the Crestview Hills City Council for seven years before retiring in Feb. 2021. 

The Roesels have been residents of Crestview Hills for more than two decades and are both members of the Thomas More All Saints Club.

About Rachel Lehmkuhl

Lehmkuhl and her husband, Richard, are both alumni of the university. 

Lehmkuhl focused her studies on biology and mathematics, and she currently works at Compass Emergency Physicians, a locally owned, democratic practice that is partnered with St. Elizabeth Healthcare. 

About Susan Hackman Sturgeon

Sturgeon earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry from Thomas More, where she was also involved in the Alpha Lambda Mu sorority. 

She remains an active member of the Thomas More community, serving as a Friend of the Field Station, a parent of an alum, and a volunteer mentor. 

Sturgeon is involved in various community organizations, including the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati, where she sits on the board of directors and serves as the current president and plant sale chair. 

She is also a past president and board member of the Greater Cincinnati Master Gardener Association, a member of the Kenton County Extension Council, and a past board member of Notre Dame Academy. 

Having retired from Proctor and Gamble, Sturgeon previously served as the consumer director for market knowledge.

About Ted J. Zalla

At Thomas More, Zalla pursued an education in business administration, computer information systems, and economics. 

Later, he obtained a Master of Business Administration degree with a focus on finance from The Wharton School. 

Before his tenure at USI in 2004, Zalla worked as a senior manager and strategic advisor for Ernst & Young. 

Zalla has a close connection with the University as his mother, Marna, served as a trustee in the past, and his father, Ted, as well as his brothers, Mark and Jeff, all graduated from Thomas More.
