The First Colony Church of Christ will soon host the 'Movies Under the Moon' event, where the church will feature the popular kids' film, Disney's "Encanto."

'Movies Under the Moon'

As per its Facebook page, the screening will happen at 7:45 P.M on Saturday, May 14, at the Sugar Land Town Square. The church invites people to bring their friends and family, as well as blankets and lawn chairs for the show.

'Movies Under the Moon' is a Saturday evening event of the church wherein they provide outdoor screenings of hit movies for the congregation and the community to enjoy.

First Colony Church Of Christ

First Colony Church of Christ is a Sugar Land-based church that says that it honors God and makes sure that people matter.

The church calls Jesus its hero and champion. It believes that Jesus came to the world as a man, lived a perfect life, was crucified on a cross, and rose from the dead, as well as Jesus being humanity's mediator with God.

First Colony started in 1985 with their first service at the Settlers Way Elementary School attended by 80 people.

Senior Minister and Shepherding Elder Ronnie Norman lead the church. The pastor claims to have a special connection with the church as he was one of the attendees of the first service.

The church is active in serving the community as it has housed scouts and other organizations looking for a venue. 

First Colony has also partnered with organizations such as the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to provide them with spiritual guidance.

Those who are looking for the sermons of the church can go through the church's online sermon library. The catalog also features recent series such as "ACTS: Spirit. Mission. Drama," "Upgrades," "Come, Lord Jesus," and "Attitude Adjustment."

Encanto

The movie, Encanto, is an award-winning animated film by Walt Disney Animation Studios. 

Most notably, the film won Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film for 2022.

The movie tells the story of Mirabel, a Colombian teenage girl who's the only one in her family without magic powers. Encanto is a fantasy story rooted in the importance of family and seeing the importance of each family member.

The musical features songs such as "The Family Madrigal," "Surface Pressure," and "We Don't Talk About Bruno."

It also had a cast of talented Hispanic talents such as Stephanie Beatriz, John Leguizamo, María Cecilia Botero, Angie Cepeda, and Wilmer Valderrama, just to name a few.

The music was written by renowned composer Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is known for his previous works on the screen and onstage. The singer-songwriter also wrote a play and played the part of Hamilton.

Sugar Land Town Square

The Sugar Land Town Square, where the event will occur, opened in 2003 with the partnership of Planned Community Developers (PCD) and the City of Sugar Land. The destination is a place where Sugar Land residents can live, work, shop, and gather.

Today, it is the premier walking district and lifestyle destination of the city that contains restaurants, storefronts, condos, and a world-class hotel.
