One of the former members of the Brothers Under Christ Fraternity was recently sentenced in court over sexual assault cases. The accused reportedly assaulted three women. Thus, Texas A&M University, a few miles away from Houston, Texas, decided to expel him from being part of the organization.
Brothers Under Christ Fraternity Former Members Gets Expelled
A man named Jacob Pape will soon face jail for sexual assault cases filed by three of his victims. As reported via KRHD 25, the court sentenced the suspect to seven years in jail and will be expelled from the university.
According to the Brazos County District Attorney's office, Pape was working from a Christian camp when he sexually assaulted his first victim, named in court as Jane Doe #1. As per DA, the first victim reported the alleged sexual assault at the time in a church sermon.
As narrated, Jane Doe #1 attended a Breakaway Ministries sermon in 2018 that ended with the pastor urging sexual assault victims to report their perpetrators. It was the time when Jane Doe #1 was encouraged to step up and reveal her story.
Ironically, the person that she chose to share her story with was the roommate of the defendant. Once it was revealed, the roommates and Pape's fellow members of the Christian organization started to be suspicious of his movements.
As per DA, the members reportedly told the authorities that another person claimed to be Jane Doe #2 of the case. During the investigation and interrogation, the accused finally admitted to his crime and pointed out that he had sex with Jane Doe #2, although she was asleep and unaware.
According to the jury, the investigation revealed that two of Pape's victims faced similar experiences when they were assaulted. As narrated, the defendant took the victims home and offered them each glass of wine.
When the victims already felt intoxicated and unaware of what was happening, Pape reportedly started assaulting them. Thus, the court justified its sentence to give the suspect seven years in jail.
"The jury's verdict is a monumental step forward in protecting women in this community from sexual violence," said the Brazos County DA.
Beta Upsilon Chi- Brothers Under Christ
The Beta Upsilon Chi (BYX), also known as Brothers Under Christ, is the "largest national Christian Fraternity in the United States." As per its official website, the organization comprises Christian men who are reportedly committed to having a lifelong brotherhood as bonded by God.
In 1985, the University of Texas in Austin formed the first alliance of Christ-follower men. As explained, the organization aims to present an alternative to fraternities in universities and make them faith-based. After that, the organization was also formed in other Texas-based universities, including Texas A&M University.
Based on their doctrinal statement, the members of the fraternity believe in the Holy Trinity– the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Due to that, the group uses the bible as their guide and what they believe is "God's written revelation to man."
