A local church in Texas recently encouraged people to join in on the 12th annual Messiah Sing-along event.

According to Click2Houston, the Houston orchestra performed at the Messiah Sing-along. Singers at all levels were encouraged to participate at 7 pm on Sunday, Dec. 5. Located at the St. Peters United Methodist Church, it is a free event done annually.

Opportunity for Everyone

David Galasso, musical director of St. Peters UMC, expressed on Thursday, Dec.2, that they have been offering the event for 15 to 18 years. The first time they did it, people were ecstatic, he said.

They provided an opportunity to the people. People like something they could participate in, such as this event., Galasso added.

Despite not being professional or trained in the field of expertise, Galasso gave everyone a chance to perform with a full orchestra. They also provided a place for singers and those who wanted to listen, as reported.

“We all sing the Christmas portion for the Messiah including, ‘A Child was born’ that people love and the ‘Great Amen’,” said Galasso in the video interview.

Christmas Highlight

Based on the report of Living Magazine, the orchestral event included Part 1 and the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s work called “Messiah.” Professional soloist and full orchestra attended the event, as reported.

St. Peter’s Chancel Choir attended with 90 members, as reported from STPKaty.org, along with the members of the Katy community.

The event also was one of the Christmas highlights of the locals. It also stated that the visiting singers and the choir sat together in the ministry’s section. As disclosed, the event allowed the attendees to borrow or purchase Handel's Messiah scores.

Aside from that, opened to attendees, the Asbury Hall served as a reception area after the orchestra presentation.

Childcare was made available for attendees based on the announcements of Katy.org.

Spiritual Message

Galasso also believed that Messiah music created for people conveyed an unparalleled spiritual message for believers and non-believers.

“But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress,” as written on Psalm 59:16.

As the verse stated, music and songs lifted the distress of the audience and comforted them as they listened to the chorus of Handel. The event reminded people of the savior’s birth, Jesus Christ.

According to the musical director, the Messiah Sing-along event touched the hearts of many.

It had also affected his heart and soul, the musical director stated. He said it was a thrill to offer the annual Messiah Sing-along to the people.
