The Lake Houston United Methodist Church recently offered a deep-sea vacation Bible school for the kids in its congregation.

According to its Facebook page, the four-day event happened from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., from Monday to Thursday, June 6-9, at the church premises.

The VBS is available for four-year-olds to 6th graders. Apart from the program, the kids can sign up for two different activities that involve science, games, or crafts.

Lake Houston United Methodist Church

The Lake Houston United Methodist Church started in 1962 as a congregation in Huffman and the Lake Houston Area.

Unfortunately, the church had a setback in 2017 when Hurricane Harvey filled the church with flood water, making it unusable. The church then moved and rebuilt a modern worship space to provide the community with a new sanctuary.

The church believes in the Holy Trinity, and that salvation comes through Jesus Christ. It also believes in the sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.

As United Methodists, the church also believes in Grace as defined by the founder of the movement, John Wesley.

It also follows a “balanced view,” believing that the Christian faith is revealed by the scriptures, illuminated by tradition, enlivened by experienced, and confirmed by reason.

Community is important for the church, and it has multiple connect groups and ministries for kids, students, men, and women to join. It even has a volleyball group and alcoholics, an anonymous group.

Mission: Deep Sea

The Mission: Deep Sea is a vacation Bible school curriculum from the Grow Curriculum. The VBS focuses on developing spiritual habits, following the memory verse, Ephesians 3:18.

In the VBS, the students are a part of a crew of deep-sea explorers from the Sea Exploration Agency. Their mission is to explore the depths of the ocean in search of the Creator.

The four days feature the stories of Moses, Luke and John, and Jonah. There’s also an optional 5th day where kids can showcase an event of everything they’ve learned throughout the week.

The story of Moses focuses on the part wherein he guides the Israelites through the Red Sea after God parted the waters to get them to safety.

For the disciples, it focuses on the story of Jesus feeding a crowd of 5,000 with the help of a boy who shared his lunch. For Jonah, it focuses on his journey to Nineveh to spread the Gospel and save the City.

Mission: Deep SEA is one of the three free VBS themes that the organization offers. It also offers “I Wonder…” and “On The Case.”
