The Memorial Church of Christ – Houston is holding a vacation Bible school for the month of July.

Kingdom Kids

As per its Facebook page, the three-day event is set for Monday to Wednesday, July 18-20, at the church premises at Echo Lane.

The vacation Bible school focuses on four young people in the Bible who made an impact on the Kingdom of God.

The VBS is open to children three years old to 4th graders. It is also open to kids with special and additional needs.

The theme of the VBS is based on 1 Timothy 4:12, which says, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

Memorial Church of Christ

Memorial Church of Christ believes in the Bible, the Holy Trinity, salvation, and eternity, among other things. Also, Jesus Christ established the church to spread His message through word and deed.

The church believes in Baptism as God’s way of including people in His church.

The church started in June 1957 when 50 Christians convened in the cafeteria of Memorial Elementary School to worship.

The starting congregation aimed to create a church that focuses on Biblical teaching and provides mission word in the country and globally, a mission it continues today.

As the church grew its numbers, the church established its sanctuary at Echo Lane with the foundation of a small auditorium and classrooms. Eventually, the church expanded even further, erecting the “Family Center” in 1985.

Today, apart from serving Houston, it has missions in Africa, India, and the Republic of Malawi.

For the congregation, the church has ministries that cater to children, youth, and adults. It also has different small groups.

Christian education for children is an important matter for the church handled by its “Friendship School.” The institution provides various learning experiences for the children in a Christian environment.

The curriculum of the school is designed to help students develop in academics, Bible, and social behaviors.

Minister David Duncan

Preaching Minister David Duncan has been serving Houston since 2006. Before his tenure at Memorial, he served as an Outreach Minister at the Edmond Church of Christ in Oklahoma.

The minister has a Master’s Degree from Oklahoma Christian. He also has a Doctorate in Ministry degree from the Houston Graduate School.

As a missionary, he took his family to Brazil to plant a church.

Children Heroes of Bible

The Bible has plenty of stories of children stepping up to serve God.

Before becoming the king of Israel, David started as a shepherd who stood up to the giant Philistine warrior Goliath.

In the book of 1 Samuel, David volunteered to fight the giant when no soldier from Israel would. With the throw of a smooth stone, the young man took out Goliath, and the war was won.

In the Book of Matthew, a young boy who shared his loaves of bread and fish was important to the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 people.
