Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, particularly Pro-Life and Social Concerns Minsitry, hosted the Christmas in July collection last July 22, Friday. The gathering's purpose is to supply the parish's Blessing Box.
The Blessing Box is placed outside the Township Building.
Kids Serve, Christmas in July
The church acknowledged that its community's needs are present throughout the year, not only on holidays. Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Illinois, maintains a Blessing Box outside the Township Building.
According to its Facebook page, kids helped create blessing bags for the church's Christmas in July collection during their Pray and Play Day. The Pro-Life and Social Concerns Ministry served as host for the Christmas in July collection.
The children could have fun, learn, and reach out to their community through the activity. Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church helps provide for the community, not only during the holidays. It encouraged its congregation to donate.
As stated in the same announcement, the church welcomes donations at all the Masses that weekend. The church requested canned meat, tuna pouches, peanut butter, and jelly.
It also asked for donations of individual packages of crackers, cookies, cheese or peanut butter crackers, granola bars, and chips. Those who want to donate can also give soups, chili, mac n cheese, beef stew, chicken, dumplings, pasta, and spaghetti sauce in flip-top cans.
The church also provided a list of personal hygiene items needed. Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church also asked everyone to donate bottled water and juices in pouches or plastic bottles.
Pray and Play Day
As announced on the same Facebook page, Pray and Play Day happens this summer every Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon. Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church welcomes all school-age kids to Mass and fun activities after.
Pray and Play Day begins with a Mass, snacks, and various weekly activities follow. The church welcomes parents to stay during Pray and Play Day or drop off their kids.
According to the church, big kids at the church will be present to assist the participants on Pray and Play Day.
About Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church
As per its website, the church had its humble beginnings from the first frame building church built in 1856 on land that the parish still owns. From this, the Ss. Peter and Paul Church grew to what it is today.
Father W. Repis was the first resident pastor in Collinsville in November 1857. Bishop Henry D. Juncher, the first Bishop of Alton, sent him to Collinsville.
