Overland Church of Christ opened its doors on Wednesday night for all to pray and offer time to

heal. The shooting in Uvalde, Texas, claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers. On Tuesday, an 18-year-old gunman shot the victims at Robb Elementary School.

Overland Church of Christ Prays for Uvalde

According to the Fox News report, this Missouri congregation opened its doors Wednesday night for people to pray and heal together. Many are praying in the wake of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas.

Minister Ed Bialon of Overland Church of Christ shared that he was at the church when he heard about the shooting. He immediately called their sister church, the Uvalde Church of Christ.

The minister offered help by asking what they could do. Prayer was always the best thing the church could do. However, the minister expressed that he wanted to do more.

According to him, Uvalde is a very tight community, and it's struggling due to the tragedy. Minister Ed said it's tough to hear about the innocent children and their lives being taken from them.

Overland Church of Christ, through Facebook, shared its plans to go live on Facebook for its community service on behalf of those in Uvalde, Texas. It announced that services would begin at 7 p.m.

Shooting at Robb Elementary School

As reported by the Insider, the shooting in Uvalde left 19 children and two teachers dead. After May 24, Governor Greg Abbot blamed the rise in mass shootings on mental health challenges. This statement is despite previously saying that the 18-year-old gunman did not have any known history of mental health illness.

Abbot, a Republican governor, also called on the Texas legislature to arrange special committees to re-evaluate school safety issues and mass violence. The Insider also reported that the Teacher's organization calls out the governor's very weak response to the Uvalde shooting, saying guns are the problem.

Texas State Teacher Association President Ovidia Molina said that the victims' families and all Texans deserve better than that.

Still, from the Insider, Molina said the 18-year-old assailant legally purchased the assault rifle, and that should not have been permitted to happen.
