Christian Congresswoman of St. Louis Cori Bush is still pushing her call to the upper authorities to defund the police and give the budget to more important matters.

Defund Police

According to the official website of St. Louis Post Dispatch, the outcry over "defund the cops" has erected what appears to be one hurdle after another around a proponent of the term. Naturally, she's yelling back at the encroaching lines, refusing to disperse.

It is also mentioned on the same website that one of her platforms as a first-term Congresswoman from St. Louis arose from the police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the months of protests that followed.

In accordance with that, it is also stated on the same website that while the incident fueled a national movement opposing lethal force, it also shed light on municipalities unfairly bolstering budgets through traffic tickets, fines, and fees levied on the poor.

As per the same website, it is also mentioned that a lot of people are not convinced with Bush’s call to defund the police. People have a different stand against this issue, some understand what it really means to defund the police, but some think people need police officers as it makes people safe and secure.

It is also stated on the same website that some are concerned about the upcoming midterm elections, some propose renaming the phrase to better reflect its true aim, which is to provide minorities locked in concentrated poverty with something more effective than police trained for war.

Cori Bush’s Political Journey

Cori  Bush has always been known as an activist who has become a lawmaker and is still continuously fighting for what she knows is right. On the same website, it is stated by Adre Smith, a political scientist that it has been fascinating to follow Bush's journey from street activist to a lawmaker. She claimed she triggered an "earthquake" by unseating Clay because it brought an end to a north city political machine.

Cori Bush, as stated Smith was able to use her experience on the streets during the Ferguson protest to reach out to younger voters. She's hurling these flames towards the establishment. And they enjoy it a lot. They believe that the previous generation of African American leadership was overly institutionalized.

As per the same website, it is also stated that she is Missouri's first Black woman and nurse. She is also the first woman to represent Missouri's 1st Congressional District and the first Black Lives Matter activist elected to the United States Congress, according to the same website.

According to the same website of Cori Bush, Congresswoman Bush is now serving her first term as the representative of Missouri's 1st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives.
