Tower Grove Church will hold a concert featuring The Lesters on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m.
The church’s Facebook page posted that the event would be about sharing God’s love in song and worship.
Story of The Lesters
According to The Lebters' website, their story began with their grandparents, Harvey and Opal Lester. Harvey was born in West Plains, MO, on Feb. 27, 1902. Then, they noted that he met Opal LuMeart in 1922 while attending an “Old Fashioned Singing School.”
The website revealed that Opal played the pump organ at Dry Bayou Baptist Church in Hayti, MO. Besides, they noted that after getting married and relocating to St. Louis, the Lester Family gospel music ministry started in 1925.
As further mentioned, they performed their gospel singing for churches and street meetings, tent revivals, and local missions from the 1920s to 1940s. They said they served in St. Louis as the Sunshine & Zinzer Missions.
Only Child
The website posted that Hershel Lester, their only child, was born on March 06, 1927. As added on the website, he started his singing career with the family at a very young age. They revealed that he served his country in World War II.
Moreover, they pointed out that he directed a band that entertained service members while in the Navy. They explained that this experience was the beginning of his love for teaching.
The website noted that when he returned home, he completed high school and his Master’s Degree in Music Education. They said that he had graduated from St. Louis University.
They stated that Harvey and Opal Lester always thought teaching and promoting gospel music was integral to their ministry. People taught Gospel music at the family music store. Then they started promoting gospel singing.
About Tower Grove Church
The church’s website revealed that they seek to manifest God’s love by serving their neighbors. They added that one of their core values is to stand on the Scripture.
As further explained, they believe all Scriptures came from God’s breath. As added on the website, they use it for teaching, correcting, rebuking, and training for righteousness.
Tower Grove Church highlighted the Bible verse 2 Timothy 3:16-17 which says that God’s servant may be thoroughly trained for every good work through the Scripture.
Moreover, the church noted that they value growing in Jesus. According to Ephesians 4:15, by speaking the truth in love, they could grow to become mature parts of the body of Christ, who is the head.
In addition, at Tower Grove Church, serving others is vital for them. The website emphasized that each of them should use whatever gifts they receive from God to help others as faithful managers of His grace in different ways.
More importantly, the website posted that they value everyone at Tower Grove Church. They based it on the Scripture in Hebrews 12:14, which says, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy.”
The Bible verse added that no one could see the Lord without holiness.
