As per its Facebook page, the event is on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the church premises.

Those attending can expect free food, live music, backpacks, and school supplies. The church's event partner, Kuts for Christ, will also give away free haircuts.

According to the church announcement, this event is a way of giving back to the community.

Elim Church

Based on its website, the Elim Church is a congregation that strives to help people connect with God, grow in Him, and share His word. The church believes that Jesus Christ is God and that He came to Earth to accomplish the works of the Father.

The Elim Church has been serving God and the city of Houston for over a hundred years. It started with a small group by Anna Manning in 1922.

In its early years, the church became known as the Magnolia Park Pentecostal Church.

In 1938, under the leadership of Ptr. W.E. Kidson, the church became the "Houston Gospel Tabernacle" along with its move to 67th street. It was 1969 when the church became the Elim Church.

Over the years, the church has had multiple senior pastors, such as Henry Gordon Magee, Bro. Caroll Rector, Ptr. Ron Nissen, and other pastors.

Under Pastor Nissen's over 30 years of leadership, the church found unprecedented growth that led to the increase of its sanctuary to a 17-acre land with a children's and youth building.

By 2000, the church already had more than 50 ministry groups and a roster of associate pastors. Throughout the century, the church started to hold multiple events for the church and the community.

Ps. Mark, Blanche Walker

The Walkers are the current leaders of the church. Mark Walker has been a member of the church since 1969.

The couple is both graduates of the South Houston High School. Mark served as a Houston firefighter while serving at the Elim's board of Elders and as a part of its youth ministry.

Over the years, the Walkers have served the church as youth pastors, Sunday School teachers, and even worship ministry members. Eventually, Mark became an associate pastor of the church.

After more than three decades of service to the Houston Fire Department, the pastor became the senior pastor of the Elim Church in 2013.

According to the church page, the Walkers desire to preach the Word of God and lead people to change their lives.
