The Community Christian Church of Manchester, MO, is the location of Bremer Community Garden. Through this garden, the church addresses food scarcity within its community. Last week the church harvested fresh produce from this garden.
Bremer Community Garden
As stated on its website, the Community Christian Church houses the Bremer Community Garden. An eight-foot perimeter deer-proof fence surrounds this garden.
The Bremer Community Garden offers more than 5,000 square feet of gardening with the best soil and compost available. As shared on the website, this is a full–scale community garden.
Volunteers from all walks of life manage this garden. According to the webpage, the Bremer Community Garden is an expression of the faith and spirituality of the Community Christian Church.
The church has faith that through this garden, it works with the Spirit of God’s creation to feed its neighbors, members, and friends, including Circle of Concern clients. The Bremer Community Garden also provides food for families from a local elementary school experiencing food scarcity.
The Community Christian Church invites all to join in its community workdays. Volunteers tending the garden meet most Wednesday evenings starting at 5:30 and some Saturday mornings.
According to an update on Facebook, last week, with the help of warm weather, the Christian Community Church harvested all of its lettuce, arugula, and beets from the Bremer Community Garden.
According to the church, it shared almost 40 items of fresh produce with those facing food insecurity. The church stated that harvesting garlic, onions, and potatoes could be done soon with the hot days. The Community Christian Church invites all to join and participate in this ministry.
Circle of Concern Shopping Cart
As shared on the church’s website, this congregation brings food to fill the shopping cart in the Narthex every Sunday. Then, all donations are delivered to the local pantry, Circle of Concern.
About Circle of Concern Pantry
According to its website, its Client Choice food pantry is Circle’s core service. It feeds approximately 600 families—close to 2,000 people every month. Clients “shop” for a supply of wholesome foods like eggs, milk, cheese, vegetables, fresh fruits, bakery items, canned goods, and frozen meats.
They can also shop for personal care items such as toilet tissue, soap, and toiletries. As stated on the webpage, the amount of food shared is based on family size and is estimated to last seven to ten days or longer.
The Circle of Concern Pantry is a gateway to other Circle programs and services. For families to have access to other programs, they must first receive food from the pantry.
