Kirkwood United Church of Christ holds vigils on Thursdays for black lives advocacy

Kirkwood United Church of Christ (KUCC) will hold another Black Lives Vigil on Aug. 19, Thursday. According to its Facebook post, the church recognizes the need for social justice for the black community.

Vigils on Thursdays take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Call for Social Justice

Kirkwood United Church of Christ encourages its congregation to fight for social justice. The church organized a weekly Thursday vigil for the black community. It serves as the venue for the call.

As shared on Facebook, Kirkwood United Church of Christ will hold another Black Lives Matter Vigil on Aug. 19.

Nonetheless, the enthusiasm of Kirkwood's neighborhood motivates the church's passion for acting for social justice.

As shared on Facebook, Kirkwood United Church of Christ expresses its conviction that "Black Lives Matter, too." The church invites everyone to join the Black Lives Matter Vigil. 

The church claims the vigil as its way of fighting for justice for all as it recognizes its black brothers and sisters. 

It is also standing up for love as allies. KUCC instructs all interested in joining to bring homemade signs or use signs from the church and water.

For those who cannot join in person, the church requests them to commit to joining with their prayerful spirit. The next Black Lives Matter Vigil will happen on Aug. 26, while the next one will be on Sept. 2.

About Kirkwood United Church of Christ

According to its Facebook page, the church is located at 1603 Dougherty Ferry Rd., Kirkwood. Worship service, Youth Education and Adult Education happen on Sundays. 

Worship service and Youth Education time are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. On the other hand, Adult Education is at 10:45 a.m. 

Kirkwood United Church of Christ invites all for coffee and punch after the Sunday service. Visitors are also welcome. 

The church has available Nursery care for kids three and below. Kirkwood United Church of Christ also made hearing assistance devices available from the sound system operator.

As stated on its Twitter account, the Lord intends Kirkwood United Church of Christ to be an open, diverse, and caring community of Christ's disciples. 

The church introduces more of its community through its website. Kirkwood United Church of Christ identifies itself as an inter-generational congregation. 

It claims to be a welcoming, friendly, and mission-oriented church.

Rev. Betsy Happel serves as the pastor of Kirkwood United Church of Christ. She started serving as pastor at KUCC in June 2009.  

Rev, Carolyn Held is the Associate Pastor. As stated on the website, she will work on pastoral care for the congregation and preach once a month. 

Rev. Held will serve as the pastoral liaison to the Mission & Outreach and Nurture & Education ministry team. She will also work with Reverend Happel in leading the faith formation class.

United Church of Christ said its purpose is to welcome all, love all, and seek justice for all.
