Getting Involve
The same website encouraged the church’s members to join them in serving their unsheltered neighbors every other Monday night. They advised them to wear clothes appropriate to the weather with sturdy shoes.
According to them, they have a Street Team for their “Mission Monday.” They give out donations collected from members. They noted that these items are new or gently used by the congregation to support the ministry.
In addition, they mentioned that their needs depend on the season for the homeless, and the church’s storage options are limited.
Caring for Orphans
Aside from caring for the unsheltered people in St. Louis, the church hosts a chapter of the regional organization, Fostering Faithful Families.
Rooftop Church believes God called them to care for kids without homes.
According to another church’s webpage, they take the calling seriously. They explained that they prioritized fostering and adoption among many Rooftop families.
Moreover, the church emphasized that this program aims to raise awareness and advocate for fostering and adoption. They added that Fostering Faithful families also helps those already part of orphan care.
In addition, the organization assists them in solidarity and provides tools and practical help when needed.
Fostering Faithful Families
The Fostering Faithful Families website explains that it is a program that involves the Catholic Faith Community in support of foster families. They stated it is a partnership initiative to recruit foster and adoptive families within their congregations.
Moreover, they mentioned working with Lutheran Family & Children Service and One Heart Ministries. The website aimed to educate the Archdiocese parishes about foster kids' needs.
Besides, the project includes Christian foster and adoptive parents, as further noted on the website.
The organization highlighted the Scripture from Psalm 68:5-6 which says, “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows.” The verse also mentions that God puts the lonely in families.
Calling, Practice of Faith
The response of the current foster and adoptive parents, their role is a calling or practice of their faith.
The website stated that these parents agreed that the faith-based community is a significant untapped source of permanent families for kids and youth in foster care.
In addition, they pointed out that the Epworth Children & Family Services and MBCH Children & Family ministries endorsed the project. They added that the Children’s Foundation of Mid-America recognized the project's initiatives.
