Fish Fries on Lent Season

According to the official website of Presspub, Lent is a holy season for Christians in which individuals practice self-denial and atonement in preparation for Jesus Christ's death and resurrection.

As mentioned in the same article, the fish fry tradition is most firmly identified with the Roman Catholic community, but churches and organizations of various religions have participated.

It is also stated in the same article that the tradition has evolved significantly throughout the years, although it began as a fast and was finally established as a 40-day abstention from the meat of warm-blooded animals.

This type of penance, as per the same article was intended to commemorate Christ's 40 days of suffering and tolerance in the desert when he was tested by the devil.

According to the official website of The Standard, to confirm one's faith, one is required to fast and pray, stress repentance, and participate in charitable activities.

Referring to the same website, one should avoid drinking, smoking, or using drugs, eat meat, and consciously abstain from sexual intercourse are just a few examples.
